Christian, God

Verses for Meditation, 4/20/23

“These are the things you are to teach and insist on. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” 1 Timothy 6:2-10 (Emphasis mine)

Tuesday’s Verse, 4/18/23

“He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.
 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
    from my foes, who were too strong for me.
 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
    but the Lord was my support.
 He brought me out into a spacious place;
    he rescued me because he delighted in me.” Psalm 18:16-19 NIV

Is This God’s Will?

Do you ever get stumped? You just don’t know if it is God’s will for you to do a certain thing. You think it might be, but you aren’t sure. I searched the Scriptures to find out how to know God’s will. This is what I learned:

1. Pray

The writer of Hebrews prayed,

“Now may the God of peace … equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21 (emphasis mine)

 Jesus said to pray like this,

“Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

King David prayed,

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.

 Rescue me from my enemies, Lord,
    for I hide myself in you.
 Teach me to do your will,
    for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
    lead me on level ground.” Psalm 143:8-10 (emphasis mine)

2. Seek Wisdom

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” James 1:5

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
 in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (emphasis mine)

3. Search God’s Word – His will is revealed in Scripture.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
    a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2 (emphasis mine)

4. Know God’s Heart of Love

The better I know God, the easier it will be to know what He wants me to do. I need the mind of Christ. I need to know His heart. I have to remind myself that it isn’t about me, it’s about the things He cares about. Jesus said,

“Love your neighbor as yourself.” Romans 13:9b

“Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:29

Remember when we used to say, “What would Jesus do?” That was very popular in the ’90s. I think we need to get back to it! Because, really, isn’t that the answer to our question?

Verses for Meditation, 4/13/23

“I know that my redeemer lives,
    and that in the end he will stand on the earth.
26 And after my skin has been destroyed,
    yet in my flesh I will see God;
27 I myself will see him
    with my own eyes—I, and not another.
    How my heart yearns within me!” Job 19:25-27
