Parents have the primary responsibility to raise their children to become spiritual champions … local churches need to support parents in that endeavor. Our primary focus needs to be on children … and growing their biblical worldview. If we do that, we’ll be able to grow the 3 percent of adults who are disciples in America today to a larger proportion.” George Barna

Sunday’s Memory Verse, 9/1/24
But he [Jesus] said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV Read full chapter

“Worry Is Like a Rocking Chair”
They were caught hiding Jews from the Nazis during WWII. Corrie ten Boom, her sister, and their elderly father were arrested and eventually sent to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. Corrie described Ravensbruck as “the deepest hell that man can create”.¹

Corrie survived Ravensbruck, but if anyone ever had an excuse to worry, it would be her. This is what Corrie had to say about worrying.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength. It does not enable us to escape evil. It makes us unfit to face evil when it comes. It is the interest you pay on trouble before it comes.”
Corrie Ten Boom’s book, The Hiding Place, profoundly affected me as a young adult. Corrie lived her life, before, during, and after Ravensbruck, serving the Lord Jesus Christ.

Her faith and trust in Jesus will encourage you through any trial you may face. If you have never read The Hiding Place, I strongly encourage you to do so. There is also a very good movie. You can watch the trailer HERE.
“Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. 7 And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].” Philippians 4:6-7 AMP
So many times, people say, “I’m a worrier. I worry about everybody.” It’s as if they think it’s a badge of honor. It’s not! To worry means we are not trusting God. To please God, we must have faith. We must trust Him.
“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 NIV
If I have learned anything on my Christian journey of 60+ years, it is this: Seek God with all your heart. Love Him with all your heart. Trust Him with all your heart. Obey His Word with all your heart. If you do that, He will take care of everything else.
Take it from Corrie, “Worry is like a rocking chair; it keeps you busy but does not bring you farther.”

Quote of the Week, 8/28/24
“The authority of Scripture means that all the words in Scripture are God’s words in such a way that to disbelieve or disobey any word of Scripture is to disbelieve or disobey God” (Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology, page 73).
This doctrine forms the basis of apologetics, for we can only appeal to the Scripture when we trust its authority. The correctness of every belief, value, opinion, statement, and sermon is finally settled by the question: What does the Bible say?

Monday’s Verse, 8/26/24
“As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;” Psalm 103:12-13 NIV

I Can’t Believe He Did That!
“A traveler, between flights at an airport, went to a lounge and bought a small package of cookies and a newspaper. The woman found an empty seat in the gate area and sat down next to a man reading a magazine. After a couple of minutes she became aware of a rustling noise. From behind her paper she peeked to see the man sitting next to her helping himself to her cookies. After the initial shock she decided not to make a scene so she reached over and took a cookie for herself.
A minute or two passed and then came more rustling. The woman peeked from behind her paper and sure enough, the man was helping himself to another cookie. Again the woman decided not to make a scene and instead reached over and took two cookies for herself. This same process occurred several more times until there was one cookie left. The man broke the cookie in two pieces, ate half, and slid half over to the woman, got up and left.
The woman couldn’t believe the audacity of the man and was still fuming over the whole affair when she boarded her flight. After takeoff the woman needed something in her purse and when she opened it up the first thing she saw was her package of unopened cookies.”
Our assumptions can be misleading more often than we want to admit!
Jesus says in John 7:24: “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge and you will not be judged; do not condemn and you will not be condemned; pardon and you will be pardoned; (Luke 6:36-37)

Friday’s Verse, 8/23/24
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.” 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 NIV Read full chapter
