Monday’s Verse, 8/7/23

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5 NIV

My Thoughts: Shouldn’t we praise and worship Him every day with our whole heart?

Sunday’s Memory Verse, 8/6/23

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV

My Thoughts: A most-precious promise, to be sure, especially in these days of great deception.

“Whose Image?” Quietly Roaring

The new Mission Impossible movie showcases what the world could be brought to the brink of, if AI technology got that smart. Hmm…is the idea that AI could outsmart humans one day really that far-fetched?

Can you sense what will happen if critical thinking goes even further out the proverbial window?

The university I am studying my Masters through has just made an official statement about the use of AI by students. Basically, most Australian universities are taking the stance that there is little they can do to detect or prevent students from using AI. If anything, universities state they will need to change the way they teach and assess students to ensure students are actually learning.

AI is simply advancing at a rate that ethics codes, practices, and the law itself cannot keep up with.

Despite some of the unquestionable benefits of AI, especially in the field of medicine, why does most of what I learn about AI make me feel increasingly ill at ease? Is it just me?

It seems the more I look into it, the more it makes me ponder whether humankind has got too “smart” for its own good.

So, with lots of pondering, I’ve reached a conclusion that may seem pretty far-fetched, but nevertheless, it’s where your mind may also land if you pause to think about things from a theological perspective.

God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them…..Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”(GEN 1:27, 31)

Humans are the pinnacle of God’s good creation.

So, doesn’t it make sense that the father of lies, the master of counterfeits, the hater of everything good that God has created, the very devil himself, will continue to do all he can to destroy that image of God in humans?

Throughout history, we have seen the hand of evil. Humans kill other humans through wars and genocide. Deceived by their own sinful natures, humans abort their babies, enslave the poor and victimize the weak. Today we also witness the twisting of what it means to be male and female and the gradual decline into a gender-neutral society… ideologies hideously designed by Satan to remove humankind further and further away from recognizing that they are made in God’s image.

And now we have AI. So what? How is it any different from any other new technology?

The difference is it thinks for us. It can sound like us. It can look like us. Did you know there is Hybrid Human Artificial Intelligence (HHAI). Think carefully about where that could lead.

What or whose image is humankind being conformed to?

Let’s ponder some more and take it a step further.

What if the coming person of the anti-Christ is something or someone made in man’s image? If you have bothered to google HHAI and learned that it “fuses human abilities and AI capabilities into a unified entity”, then the thought may not seem so absurd.

Since this pondering has landed us in Revelation, what if the mark of the beast is something that humans are going to willingly line up for and, in fact, worship? With the rapid advancement in medical AI, perhaps it will be some type of medical breakthrough that promises (the counterfeit version) of eternal life?

Whoa. Time to pull up! I’m NOT into conspiracy theories but I do like to be curious and think outside the box.

I realize this post hasn’t been my usual Quietly Roaring style. But I do hope it has given you something to ponder! I will return to my usual style of writing in my next post.

In the meantime, power to the humans! 😜

Friday’s Verse, 8/4/23

“Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:10-11 NIV (emphasis mine)

My Thoughts: One of Satan’s tricks is to encourage us to hold unforgiveness in our hearts. Don’t do it!

Verses for Meditation, 8/3/23

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NIV

My Thoughts: May we never lose sight of the fact that “This world is not our home.”

Quote of the Week, 8/2/23

The church must not simply “bandage the victims under the wheel, but jam a spoke in the wheel itself.”

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

My Thoughts: In April 1933, Bonhoeffer raised the first voice for church resistance to Hitler’s persecution of Jews.” Today’s world presents us with many wheels to be jammed: abortion, false teaching in the Church, and the abuse of children by the transgender agenda.

yes, the many good things
    he has done for Israel,
according to his compassion and many kindnesses.” Isaiah 63:7 NIV (emphasis mine)

My thoughts: May we remember to share with others what He has done for us.

Is Knowing God a Mystical Experience ?

I was once deceived by false teachers. Now I realize that the Word of God is my greatest treasure because knowing God’s Word is our protection against deception. If you know the Bible well you will recognize false teaching when you hear it.

That’s why I warn others to read the Bible before reading books about the Bible. That’s exactly how I was led astray by false teaching: by reading books written by false teachers. Of course, I didn’t know they were false at the time, but in my enthusiasm to learn, I was led astray. And so were many others.

Learning God’s Word takes time and discipline, but it is essential for knowing the only true God. If you want to know God, turn to His Word. Can you imagine how many pages of notes it would take to write down everything the Bible teaches us about God, His attributes, and character?

Countless books have been written about how to intimately know God. Unfortunately, many of these books refer to mystical practices, such as contemplative prayer. But these practices are based on New Age, Hindu, and Buddhist beliefs. I come across these books or quotes by New Age teachers all the time.

If you don’t know the person being quoted, try this. Google: “Is ______ a false teacher?” If a discernment ministry has researched this person it will pop up. This is how I have discovered that several “Christian” writers were in fact steeped in occult beliefs. Of course, you must evaluate what is said and use discernment.

Pagan practices may result in a “feeling” of supernatural power which some mistake for the presence of God. One example is to repeat a mantra, to empty your mind, and to listen for God to speak. However, you will find this nowhere in the Bible. In fact, this is a dangerous practice based on the occult which the Bible warns us against.

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.” 1 Timothy 4:1

People want to experience the supernatural. They look for it and are enticed by it.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “[For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly].” Philippians 3:10 AMPC

But Paul also said this, “For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.” 2 Corinthians 11:4

That tells me that some will come preaching a different Jesus, calling on a different spirit, and proclaiming a different gospel. This is not the Jesus we want to know. We want to know the only true and living God and Jesus His Son.

What is this different Jesus? It is one who doesn’t proclaim the truth of Scripture and is often in conflict with Scripture. It might be enticing and sound exciting but don’t be fooled by your emotions. Our emotions can lead us to believe what we want to be true instead of what IS true.

In these perilous times and in the days ahead, the truth of God’s Word is our most precious treasure and protection against evil. Do not look to mystics or pagan religions, like Buddhism or Hinduism, to learn how to know God. The Bible will teach you everything you need to know.

You can learn more about the dangers of contemplative prayer here.

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

“Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165
