Verse for Meditation, 11/28/24

“But now, this is what the Lord says—
    he who created you, Jacob,
    he who formed you, Israel:
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

 When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
    they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned …

This is what the Lord says—
    he who made a way through the sea,
    a path through the mighty waters … “Isaiah 43:1, 2, &16 Read full chapter

Quote of the Week, 11/27/24

“If you feel besieged by life today, lean on the God of peace – the God of hope and the future. The same God who has a plan for Israel has a plan for you. Trust that He will direct your path.” David Jeremiah

Tuesday’s Verse, 11/26/24

These are the things you are to teach and insist on. If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions  and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.” 1 Timothy 6:2-5 NIV Read full chapter

Monday’s Verse, 11/25/24

“And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,” 2 Timothy 2:24-25 NIV Read full chapter

God Is Our Loving Father

Do you ever need a shoulder to cry on? Someone to whom you can honestly express everything you’re feeling? Most of us keep these deepest thoughts inside where they only torment our soul. But there is One with whom you can express your deepest feelings openly and without fear. Talk to the Lord. He loves you and knows what’s in your heart and mind anyway.

A person can be hurt in such a traumatic way that it causes life-long depression or even PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Their soul needs to be restored. Even when all else has failed, there is still hope. Your loving Father’s arms are open wide.

Have you read the book of Lamentations? It is a model for how we should express our laments to God. It was most likely written by the prophet Jeremiah. This was his lament at the time of Israel’s exile and the destruction of Jerusalem. The author pours out his heart to God. He says,

“This is why I weep
    and my eyes overflow with tears.
No one is near to comfort me,
    no one to restore my spirit.” Lamentations 1:16 NIV

The Good Shepherd is the only one who can restore your soul.

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;” Psalm 23:1-3 KJV

We can talk to God about our deepest feelings of anger and despair. We can bring these feelings to God because He loves us and wants us to turn to Him for comfort. He wants us to come to Him because we know He is our loving Father.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV

Adding lament to your prayer life will cause your relationship with God to grow deeper and more intimate. It will restore your soul.

“The thought of my suffering and homelessness
    is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time,
    as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope
    when I remember this:

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
    His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
    his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:19-23 NLT

Jesus corrected misunderstandings about Scripture, not to shame but to lead others to the truth. He exemplified a balance of correction and compassion, aiming to bring enlightenment rather than condemnation. (Bruce Cooper, from Defending Christianity: A Biblical Mandate Rooted in Truth and Love)

Verses for Meditation, 11/21/24

“If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
    if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me,
    your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:9-10 NIV

My thoughts: This verse assures us that God will guide us when we are surrendered to His will. Trust Him to guide you.
