Are You Waiting for God to Answer Your Prayers?

God always answers our prayers. He may say yes, no, or wait. Wait does not mean no. It means wait.

If God says, “Wait,” He has a purpose in your wait.

If you are waiting for an answer to prayer, God does not want you to give up! Jesus explains this in The Parable of the Persistent Widow.

"Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:1-8

So, does God sometimes make us wait? Yes!

  • Abraham waited 25 years for the birth of his son, Isaac. (Genesis)
  • Joseph waited 13 years before becoming the 2nd-in-command in Egypt. (Genesis 15-30)
  • Moses wandered in the wilderness for 40 years. (Numbers 14:33-35)
  • David waited 15 years from the time he was anointed until he became king. (1 Samuel 16 through 2 Samuel 2)

God used this time of waiting to teach them perseverance. Romans 5:4 tells us that perseverance forges character, and character produces hope. Hope is essential because it gives us strength. When the time was right, God answered their prayer.

(The Greek word in verse 1 for “give up” is enkakeō. It means to give up, become discouraged, or lose heart.)

Jesus ended the lesson with this question:

When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” (v. 8)

If Jesus returns today, will He find you giving up and losing heart? Or will He find you persisting in prayer, no matter how long you’ve been waiting? Do you trust God to answer your prayer when the time is right?

You may have been waiting 20 years, but your answer could come today! If not, remember this: your answer will come when the time is right.

Reflecting Your Heart’s True Self

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 11/25/25

“As water reflects the face,
so one’s life reflects the heart.” Proverbs 27:19

I have been reading through Proverbs, and I realize the importance of this treasure of wisdom. This book should be read and studied by all young people before they go away to college, maybe even before they start high school.

1-minute devotion for Sunday, 11/23/25

“Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you];
Bind them [securely] around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart.
So find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.” Proverbs 3:3-4 AMP (emphasis mine)

Jesus prayed for His disciples, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17

Are You Fearful or Will You Trust God?

Quote of the Week for Wednesday, 11/19/25

“Basically, there are two paths you can walk: faith or fear. It’s impossible to simultaneously trust God and not trust God.”

Just Stop Talking!

2-minute devotion for Sunday, 11/16/25

And now, the rest of the story….

Yesterday, I wrote about how we can understand the Bible. In the Sunday school class I go to, someone stated something the Bible doesn’t support (in my opinion). I blurted out, “That’s not right!” The class went silent. The whole thing upset me so much that I considered not going back to the class.

Instead, I prayed about it, and God answered my prayer. But not like I expected!

Out of the blue, I decided to read a blog post by someone I like, but hadn’t read lately, Mama Lava. In her post, Mama Lava urged readers to study the book of Proverbs. I jumped right in.

When I got to chapters 9-11, I found the answer to what I had been earnestly praying about. I’ve read Proverbs many times, but the Lord wanted to show me the verses that applied to my situation. I quickly wrote them in my journal! I am so thankful for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

These are the verses the Holy Spirit led me to:

“Sin is not ended by multiplying words,
but the prudent hold their tongues.” Proverbs 10:19

“With humility comes wisdom.” Proverbs 11:2

“Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense, but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.” Proverbs 11:12

“Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.” Proverbs 17:28

“The prudent keep their knowledge to themselves…” Proverbs 12:23

“The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.” Proverbs 17:27

“From the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue…” Proverbs 16:1

“Precious in the Sight of God”

Quote of the Week for 11/12/25

Called To Be a Servant

1-minute devotion for Sunday, 11/9/25

“He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said, “Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

Then he put a little child among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes not only me but also my Father who sent me.” (Jesus) Mark 9:35-37 NLT

When I read these verses, I am always reminded of the great need in most churches for more Children’s Ministry teachers. What a privilege to answer God’s call to serve the children He so dearly loves!

What If I Can’t Forgive Myself?

God forgives even the worst of sinners. But sometimes it can be almost impossible to forgive yourself. There is nothing the devil would like more than to torment you by reminding you of your past. So what can you do? I have good news for you: The Bible addresses this specific problem!

Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, … let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience …” Hebrews 10:19-22

The Apostle Paul said,

“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life.” 1 Timothy 1:15-16

Saul, who later became known as the Apostle Paul put Christ-followers to death! But he said that Jesus showed him mercy to display His immense patience as an example for us. Yes, God even forgives murder.

Paul said, “I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison…” Acts 22:4-5

The Good News is this:

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2

The blood of Jesus brings forgiveness for the vilest sin. It will even cleanse you from a guilty conscience. The cross is enough!
