Faith and Love: The Heart of Christianity

1-minute read for Friday, 5/23/25

“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” Galatians 5:6 NIV. Read full chapter

My thoughts: The most important thing is to trust God and we express that by loving others.

Quote of the Week, 5/21/25

I know that the experiences of our lives, when we let God use them, become the mysterious and perfect preparation for the work He will give us to do.”

Corrie Ten Boom

This has certainly proven to be true in my life. You may not see it until you look back over time.

Understanding Faith: What Hebrews Teaches Us

1-minute read for Friday, 5/9/25

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 NIV

What is faith? Hebrews, chapter eleven clearly explains what faith really is. Faith is believing what God has said even when it doesn’t seem possible. For example,

“And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise.” (vs. 11). Read full chapter

Simply put, faith is trusting God in all situations.

Quote of the Week, 4/16/25

1-minute read

Our life of praise to the Almighty is a stone thrown in a deep mill pond, evidenced in the widening ripples. The mystery being, we will never know how far our ripples travel in this world.

Alan Kearns, Ripples of Praise, Devotional Treasure

My thoughts: I believe the Lord sometimes uses something we said or did to help another person. Then that person helps someone, and then that person helps someone. And so go the ripples! How far? We will never know!

Bible Illiteracy: A Call to Christians

1-minute read Tuesday, 4/8/25

“I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.” Psalm 119:16 NIV

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we, through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures, might have hope.”  Romans15:4 KJV

Many Christian leaders have said that Bible illiteracy is the plague of our times, and I agree.

“Of over 2 billion Christians in the world, less than 30% will ever read through the entire Bible. The fact is over 82% of Christian Americans only read their Bibles on Sundays while in church. One of the main reasons why American Christians don’t read their bibles is, only 22% of them believe the Bible is fully inspired by God Himself.” (Ponce Foundation)

My opinion: Ignorance is not bliss. We don’t have to live in the dark. God has given us a great treasure, His Word.

“The law from your mouth is more precious to me
than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.” Psalm 119:72 NIV

“If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.” Psalm119:92 NIV

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

Understanding God’s Call: Trusting Him to Guide You

“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 AMP

Has God called you? Do you strongly desire to do this thing? He will give you the ability to do it!

I believe that God put it in my heart to write this blog. But today, the above verse verified what I believe, and I have clarity.

I have trusted Him to lead and guide me based on several Scriptures, including:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 NIV

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Does God speak to us? Yes! He speaks to us through His Word! Today, His Word spoke to me loud and clear, showing me what He wants me to do.

You may wonder why I am sharing this with you today. It’s because I have been pulled away from my writing to do other “good” things. I am teaching children’s Sunday School and managing our Food Pantry Ministry, which provides free groceries for the poor. Honestly, it has been overwhelming! And it has drastically cut into my time for writing and supporting my fellow bloggers. I know I must let some things go.

“He (God) gives you the desire and then He gives you the ability to carry out His good pleasure.” Pastor Steve Yohn

“Isn’t that refreshing, to think how God changes us day by day as we allow Him to carry us through His will in our lives.” Amir Tsarfati

So what part do I play in this? I must ask God to purify my heart, surrender to God’s will, love the Truth, and study my Bible.

ASK GOD TO PURIFY YOUR HEART

“Create in me a pure heart, O God…” Psalm 51:10 NIV

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

SURRENDER TO GOD’S WILL

Jesus prayed, “… not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

LOVE THE TRUTH

“… wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10 NIV Read full chapter

To love the truth means we will exalt God’s Word over our own opinions and the opinions of the world.

STUDY THE BIBLE

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 NIV

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11 NIV

Trust God to guide you, but make sure you are doing your part.

Sometimes Christians hear preachers say, God told me this and God told me that. And we think, Why doesn’t God talk to me like that?

I believe that hearing God boils down to faith in His Word, not voices we imagine may be God.

I encourage you to think about God’s purpose for your life and trust the Lord to accomplish it.

“… he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 NIV

But remember, our life is a journey. Moses had many experiences before God used him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt! And think about all that Joseph went through before he became 2nd in command in Egypt. So if you’re at the beginning of your journey, know that God is already at work in your life (whether you see it or not)! In fact,

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Our walk with God is all about faith. Jesus said,

“… when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8 NIV

Exploring the Reliability of the Gospels

1-minute read, Friday, 4/4/25

Jesus said to His disciples, “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:25-26 NIV

the Advocate: Gr Paracletos, one called alongside to help.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide the apostles in remembering His teachings, promising both divine inspiration and historical accuracy. This is evidence that the Gospels are authentic and reliable.

Read more about the reliability and trustworthiness of the 4 Gospels in Bruce Cooper’s post, The Books and Letters of the New Testament Series – Part 1 of 3.
