Verses for Meditation, 2/6/25
“Surrounded then as we are by these serried ranks of witnesses, let us strip off everything that hinders us, as well as the sin which dogs our feet, and let us run the race that we have to run with patience, our eyes fixed on Jesus the source and the goal of our faith. For he himself endured a cross and thought nothing of its shame because of the joy he knew would follow his suffering; and he is now seated at the right hand of God’s throne. Think constantly of him enduring all that sinful men could say against him and you will not lose your purpose or your courage.” Hebrews 12:1-3 PHILLIPS Read full chapter
“Early Christians were under constant threat of prison, torture, and death. A few years after this writing, some of the Hebrew Christians would lose their lives under the Emperor Nero (AD 64)… They were prone to become weary, a word meaning “to lose heart, give up, or faint. As one who endured opposition, persecution and the cross, believers should consider Christ — the Christian’s hope and greatest example of one who willingly obeyed God in the midst of suffering.” (from The Jeremiah Study Bible notes)
