Love Does Not Affirm A Dangerous Path

We must not affirm sinful behavior because it has become acceptable in our culture. If you aren’t sure about which behaviors are evil and/or dangerous, the truth can be found in the Bible. God’s Word is Truth and the final authority. The Word says,

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV

Going along with anything and everything is not love. Sin brings pain and heartache. It always does. That’s why God warns us against it.

Standing for truth isn’t hard to do when evil is something society detests. But what about when sinful behavior is something our culture affirms? What sin does our society affirm? All you have to do is watch TV to find out. TV is filled with shows that seek to normalize sinful behaviors such as adultery, homosexuality, abortion, and transgender ideology.

I never thought I’d see the day when women would celebrate because they had won the right to murder their unborn baby. But many women in America demand abortion rights during all months of pregnancy, and they call it healthcare. That is not healthcare. It’s killing your baby for convenience. If we’re going to have this discussion, we should at least be honest about it.

There’s a reason abortion advocates call it healthcare. It’s more palatable to call it “healthcare” or “women’s rights” than to call it what it is: murder.

Abortion is just one evil that our culture affirms. There are many others. My question for you is: Will you love? Or will you affirm evil? Affirming evil is not love. It takes courage to stand up for what is right.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV

At one time, I didn’t understand this verse. Why would anyone delight in evil? Now I understand.

Engaging in sinful behavior is a very dangerous path. Will you stand up for truth to protect the innocent and/or the misinformed? It won’t be easy, but it will be loving.

The World promotes sinful behavior through propaganda and lies.

” … wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10

Deception is the work of Satan.

” … that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world … ” Revelation 12:9 ESV

Jesus said, “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” John 8:44 (emphasis mine)

FACT: “A new study from the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law finds that 81% of transgender adults in the U.S. have thought about suicide, 42% of transgender adults have attempted it.” UCLA School of Law

FACT: “According to Gissler et al. (2014), suicide rates for women directly after having abortions are three times higher than suicide rates for women overall.” Georgia College

FACT: LGBTQ+ young people are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers (Johns et al., 2019; Johns et al., 2020).

We do not stand for truth because we hate. We stand for truth because we love. We love the ones who are being deceived and led astray by propaganda and lies. It’s time to speak up.

Embracing Humility

1-minute devotion for Friday, 9/19/25

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3 Read full chapter

I remember one time many years ago. I had a room reserved for every Tuesday for the Women’s Bible Study. Then one day, the church secretary called me and said, “You won’t be able to use the room tonight.”

I said, “Why not?!”

She said, “Someone else needs it.” No explanation. Just “Someone else needs it.”

I won’t lie. I didn’t like it. My first thought was, So what? But before I could respond, the Holy Spirit brought the above verse to my mind.

I knew God was teaching me humility. It isn’t an easy lesson to learn, but one way or another, we need to learn it. If you’re like me, it will take some time!

Finding Worth in God’s Eyes

Verses for Meditation for 9/18/25

Jesus said, “Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 Read full chapter

Quote of the Week for 9/17/25

“What God wants from me is a life fighting for truth.” –Charlie Kirk

What God wanted from Charlie, He also wants from you and me. God’s Word is our source of truth.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”  Galatians 6:9

This is the verse that has been on my mind all week. Many things can make us weary, but we must keep going. We must continue in the ministry God has given us. This is when we discover that the Lord really is our strength!

The Promise of His Return

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 9/16/25

Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” …

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:3,4,8,9

“Thousands of years have passed since Jesus ascended into heaven, promising to return for His faithful ones (John 14:1–4Revelation 22:12). Scoffers point out the lapse of time and mock those who still wait and yearn for His appearing.” (Got Questions.org)

“There is God’s timetable and there is ours. From a human perspective, the word “near” passed its outer limits about 1,800 years ago. According to God’s calendar, it’s like we’re only a couple of days into the wait.” Amir Tsarfati, from his book Revealing Revelation

Are You Prepared to Defend Your Faith?

1-minute devotion for Monday, 9/15/15

… but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” 1 Peter 3:15 ESV

I started reading a book recently titled TACTICS, by Greg Koukl. I highly recommend it to anyone who desires to talk to others about Jesus. The book provides the game plan for communicating the compelling truth about Christianity with confidence and grace.

Your Very Special Reward

Sunday’s Memory Verse for 9/14/25

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.” Psalm 127:3 ESV

My thoughts: Children are always a gift from God, regardless of circumstances.

Making Disciples: The True Call of the Gospel

Jesus said, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you…” Matt 28:19-20

The command of the Great Commission is to “make disciples.” That means to teach or train people to follow and obey Christ.

Some churches are eager to “get people saved”, but they ignore all Scripture that makes people uncomfortable. Instead, they present Jesus as the way to riches and success.

Is this “easy salvation” the true Gospel? If it isn’t, we must ask ourselves this: Are people really getting saved?

What about “Take up your cross and follow me.” ?

Jesus said, ” “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

What about “The narrow gate“?

Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13-14 ESV

The Apostle Paul warned the Corinthian Church,

“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.” 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Read full chapter

The KJV says it like this:

“For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus …”

What is another Jesus? It’s a created god they named “Jesus.” It is an idol. It is not the King of Kings and Lord of Lords of the Bible!

The devil will try to lead people astray by attracting them to a different Jesus and a different gospel.

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

My thoughts: We better make sure we are leading people to the authentic Jesus, not “another Jesus.” The fact that a preacher is popular and draws big crowds means nothing. That isn’t the basis for judging whether or not the message is Biblical. Examining the Bible is!

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11

People who follow a false gospel often fall away in difficult times. I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes. It almost happened to me. If you want to know more about my experience with a false gospel, see my post Rescued From Word of Faith.

The Cross Still Offends

by Pastor Rich Bitterman

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. – John 1:5

The bullet tore the air in half.

A folding chair rattled. A Bible dropped. A young man slumped sideways beneath a white event tent, eyes wide with the weight of eternity.

It was supposed to be a conversation. A “prove me wrong” segment. But this time, rebuttal came not with words, but with a rifle.

Charlie Kirk didn’t get to finish his sentence.

I got the news just before prayer meeting. I contemplated this death as I prepared to lead the saints in prayer. But I didn’t feel like praying. Not tonight. My hands were still. My mouth was ready. But my soul was pacing. Angry. Grieving. Tempted.

Tempted to grow quiet. Tempted to sit this one out. Tempted to wonder if any of this, faith, boldness, public gospel witness, is still worth it.

Because hatred in this country isn’t simmering anymore. It is boiling.

Europe is trembling. Israel is burning. Rockets lit the sky over Gaza again. And now, here on American soil, the blood of a Christian apologist paints the pavement of a university quad.

What do you do with that?

What do you say when courage gets gunned down in daylight?

Charlie Kirk was no perfect man. None of us are.

But he had backbone where most of us don’t anymore. He was a believer. Unashamed. Unafraid. He understood that real conversations only happen when truth is welcome at the table. And the truth he carried most was Christ.

He brought the gospel into public space on purpose. Because the gospel isn’t supposed to stay in church basements and private Bible studies. It is meant to confront. It is supposed to offend. It was not made for safety.

The Word became flesh and they nailed Him to a tree.

So of course they came for Charlie.

Of course they reached for a gun.

This is what evil does when it runs out of arguments. It doesn’t reason. It kills.

That’s the part that catches in my throat. Not just the sadness, but the strategy of hell behind it.

The Enemy wants us afraid. He wants us to see what happened to Charlie and backpedal. He wants the rest of us to whisper, to soften the message, to believe the lie that faith should stay private.

But Christ never whispered. He preached in temples, on hillsides, in courtrooms, at dinner tables. And when they told Him to be quiet, He picked up His cross.

Not a symbolic one. A real one. Heavy. Bloody. Splintered.

When Jesus said, “Follow Me,” He didn’t hand out maps. He handed out crosses.

That’s what I remembered tonight.

I sat in our prayer space, surrounded by saints who had brought prayer lists and worn Bibles. And I realized I didn’t want to lead them in mourning. I wanted to lead them into battle. Not with banners or fists, but with open Bibles and tear-stained prayers.

The kind of war that kneels in gravel beside the wounded, hands them living water, and refuses to leave. The kind that speaks both mercy and judgment without flinching. The kind Charlie died for.

This world is not a friend to grace. But grace isn’t fragile.

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” Paul didn’t leave that question unanswered.

“Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” —Romans 8:35

He piles up every fear you and I carry and then sets them on fire.

“No. In all these things we are more than conquerors.”

That means bullets don’t win. Slander doesn’t win. Prison bars don’t win. Death doesn’t win.

You can lose everything in this world and still walk into glory with your head lifted high. Because the love of God in Christ Jesus isn’t suspended by headlines or gunfire.

There are two worlds unfolding right now.

The one you see. And the one you don’t.

One is filled with chaos. The other is filled with crowns.

I believe that when Charlie Kirk’s body slumped to the concrete, his soul stood upright in heaven. Not limping. Not silenced. Not stunned. But crowned.

He didn’t fall. He crossed.

The great cloud of witnesses gained another voice. And I wonder if Stephen met him there. The first martyr. The man who got stoned for preaching what the crowd didn’t want to hear. The man who, in his final breath, saw the heavens open. The only time in all of Scripture we see Jesus standing at the right hand of God, rising to receive one of His own.

I like to believe He stood again.

Are you afraid?

Do you feel the tremble in your spirit?

Do you wonder if it’s still worth it to speak boldly, to carry your Bible, to preach the gospel in a world that doesn’t just disagree but wants you gone?

You’re not alone.

You’re not weak for feeling that. But you are called to something stronger than silence.

Don’t let fear become your theology.

The cost is high. But the reward?

The reward is Christ. And He’s not a concept. He’s a King.

Heaven is not empty.

It is filled with scarred saints who refused to bow to fear. Men who were stoned. Women who were burned. Children who sang while the flames climbed.

And every last one of them arrived.

There is no difficulty that can cancel the promise of God. There is no persecution that can derail your destination. There is no sniper’s bullet that can separate a soul from Christ.

Your life is not measured by how long you live on earth, but by how much of it was spent pointing to heaven.

Paul said, “I have fought the good fight… I have kept the faith.” Then he looked toward the reward. Not a monument. Not a mention in history books. But a crown. Handed to him by the One with nail marks still in His hands.

So let me say this clearly. We do not mourn like the world mourns. We do not write eulogies dripping with sentiment. We sing songs of resurrection. We carry the banner of a Kingdom that does not tremble.

Charlie Kirk did not die for nothing. He died carrying the same message you and I must now carry forward.

The cross stands tall. The tomb is still empty. And the gospel has not lost one ounce of power.

So pick up your cross. Wipe your eyes. And keep going.

The crown is worth it. The King is coming. And there’s still time to speak.

Even if they shoot.

Lord, give us courage. And if not safety, give us joy. For we carry not just the message, but the marks. And You are worth every bruise.

Prayer: Lord of eternity, give us the strength not to shrink back, not to slow down, but to follow You wholeheartedly, fearlessly. Help us to walk with You, run with You, and finish well. We thank You for the promise of eternal rewards in Heaven, most of all the promise of meeting You face to face and hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” In Jesus’ name, amen.
