What Does the Word of God Say About the “Prosperity Gospel”?

The “Prosperity Gospel” is wildly popular. Many, if not most mega churches are steeped in it. Yes, there are numerous Old Testament Scripture references that can be pulled out to support it, but the whole counsel of the Word of God leaves no room for doubt. It is a false teaching. Read these Scriptures and then decide for yourself.

1 Timothy 6: 3-12 says “If anyone teaches otherwise and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, they are conceited and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith.

Hebrews 13:5 tells us, “Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Matthew 19:21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.

I write this post hoping you will carefully examine what Copeland, Hinn, and many other Word of Faith men and women are teaching and search the Scriptures to see if it is true as the Bereans did in Acts 17.

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11

Many good websites write about this subject. This is a good place to start: https://bereanresearch.org/white-paper-word-of-faith/

P.S. Perhaps someday I will write about my 15 years in a Word of Faith church, how it ended my ministry to women for over 20 years, and almost shipwrecked my faith.

Friday’s Verse, 2/19/21

““But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord.
    “You are my servant.
You have been chosen to know me, believe in me,
and understand that I alone am God.
There is no other God—
there never has been, and there never will be.” Isaiah 43:10 NLT

Myanmar Army document instructs soldiers to shoot, “punish and breakdown” civilians

16 February 2021

Amid widespread mass protests in Myanmar (Burma) and reports of a ramping up of armed patrols in Karen and Kachin States, a chilling Myanmar Army document was discovered instructing soldiers to “punish and breakdown” ethnic-minority Christians and other civilians deemed to be against the military regime, or even appearing critical of it in social media posts.

A Myanmar Army document was discovered that instructs military personal to take violent action against any dissenting civilians, including Christians in Karen State

The official document lists a sequence of actions that military personnel should take including firing a 12mm weapon (equivalent to a powerful machine gun) at individuals or using a 38mm weapon (a gun capable of launching grenades) on groups of civilians.

The directives include special instructions to round up any dissenting civilian doctors and nurses and to…
