The Blood Moon

I was driving home from Bunco the other night and suddenly I came upon a sight much like the featured image above. It was breathtaking! The moon was huge, low in the sky, and red! Wow! Did you see it where you live?

God’s creation is astounding! I can’t comprehend how anyone could believe there is no Creator. I want to share a passage I found that will convince you that this earth could not have come about by chance.

The existence of a Creator is obvious when we study creation itself. It’s very existence and its intricate design shout the necessity of an intelligent source. How intricate is creation? Consider this: You are probably sitting down right now while reading this book, perhaps in an easy chair or in a coffee shop. Or maybe you are standing in line, waiting to board a flight, or stretched out in bed with this book propped on your chest. You may think you are still and stationary, but you are actually hurtling through space at a fantastic speed.

Our Milky Way galaxy is rotating at almost 140 miles per second while speeding through the universe at nearly 190 miles a second like a roller coaster spinning while plunging down its tracks. In the minute it has taken to read this paragraph, you have actually traveled thousands of miles. What’s more, you are spinning on a globe that is revolving on its axis at the speed of nearly 1,000 miles an hour and orbiting the sun at a speed of 66,000 miles per hour. If you had a plane capable of that speed you would travel across the United States in 3 minutes. Yet God has so fine-tuned the ride that you feel no movement at all. One slight miscalculation in these intricately interrelated movements would doom everything to a gigantic cosmic train wreck, yet everything moves with the precision of a vast machine designed by a master engineer.

Carl Pettit, “10 Amazing Facts About the Universe You Won’t Believe”

“When I consider your heavens,
    the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?” Psalm 8:3-4 NIV Read full chapter

“…what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.  For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:19-20 NIV Read full chapter

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 NIV Read full chapter

“In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.” Hebrews 1:10 NIV Read full chapter

“To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
    Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:25-26 NIV Read full chapter

  1. This is wonderful, Cindy! Truly, I don’t know how I managed to be so blind and stupid as to call myself an “agnostic-almost-atheist” for so many years.

When I was in nursing school, my assignment one day was to observe an open heart surgery from beginning to end. After assuring the surgeon that I would not get sick or faint, he invited me to stand on a foot stool at the patient’s head, for the best view.

When the surgeon opened up the chest cavity and I saw the beating, throbbing heart, flanked by billowing, breathing lungs — WOW! I began, in that moment, to doubt my doubts about the existence of a Creator.

But I was a stubborn agnostic atheist. It still took me a few more years before I finally shook off my ignorant unbelief and asked the Lord Jesus to be my Savior and the Lord of my life. Praise God for His amazing grace!!!

  2. So miraculous! I got dizzy trying to comprehend all of that swirling motion, but I feel completely still in the early morning quiet from which I read. Thank you for that stunning reminder of how Great our God is!
