Quote of the Week for 9/10/25

“People believe easily when it doesn’t cost them any discomfort. It’s when it hurts that believing means something.”From the historical fiction book, Storm Clouds Rolling In, by Ginny Dye

In this book, the main character, Carrie, is the daughter of a wealthy plantation owner in 1860 Virginia. When exposed to the cruelty of slavery, she is faced with the cost of standing against it. It will mean turning against those she loves and her very way of life. This quote also holds meaning for believers. Will you continue to believe God’s Word even when it goes against the tide? Will you stand for Truth even when it’s unpopular?

Do You Need Wisdom Today?

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 9/9/25

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.” James 1:5-8 Read full chapter

Commentary: Those with wisdom know what to do in the midst of confusing circumstances – a clarity that only God can give. (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

The Depth of God’s Love

1-minute devotion for Monday, 9/8/25

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
 He will not always accuse,
    nor will he harbor his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him
;” Psalm 103:8-13

Today Is Grandparents Day!

1-minute devotion for Sunday, 9/7/25

“… children or grandchildren … should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God.” 1 Timothy 5:4

I am very thankful for my grandmothers. They were strong Christian women who faithfully prayed for me. The photo below is of the keepsakes that were given to me after their deaths. I keep them on display in my kitchen. They remind me that through my times of weakness, they were praying for me. These keepsakes have no earthly value, but they are precious to me.

Thank the Lord for godly grandparents. If yours are still living, honor them today.

If you are a grandparent, pray for your grandchildren, especially those who haven’t found their way to Jesus. Your prayers are “powerful and effective.” Trust me. I know.

The Mustard Seed: Understanding God’s Kingdom

1-minute devotion for Friday, 9/5/25

Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.” Luke 13:18-19

When I was a little girl about 6 or 7 years old, I was given a white Bible that zipped up. The zipper was connected to a little chain and on the end was a glass marble with a mustard seed inside. I didn’t understand the significance of the mustard seed then. But I do now.

My pastor described it like this: Looking at a mustard seed is like looking at one pixel of a photo. You have no idea what you’re looking at. Even if you double the number of pixels over and over and over, you still have no idea what you’re looking at! We can’t see what it is because we’re too close to it! WE CAN’T SEE THE BIG PICTURE! BUT GOD CAN!

Think about it!

How One Woman’s Faith Saved Hundreds of Lives

A Verse for Meditation, Thursday, 9/4/25

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;” Psalm 23:4a NIV

Cornelia “Corrie” ten Boom was a Dutch watchmaker who, along with her family, hid hundreds of Jews in their home during the Nazi Holocaust. It’s believed their efforts saved nearly 800 lives.

They were caught, and she was arrested and sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. Her most famous book, The Hiding Place, is a biography that recounts the story of her family’s efforts and how she found and shared hope in God while she was imprisoned at the concentration camp.

The Hiding Place is a must-read for all Christ-followers. There is also a movie.

Quote of the Week for 9/3/25

“Because He lives forever, there will never be a time when this great high priest can not show forth His blood that was shed for you, when His prayers will not pour forth effectual blessing upon your life. When you die and are presented before God’s throne, He will be there, pointing to the wounds he earned upon the cross, charging your debt to the account He has already paid. His priesthood is eternal, never-ending, securing eternal life to give you.” Richard D. Phillips, Pastor

” … but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:24-25 Read full chapter

The Power of Patience in Prayer

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 9/2/25

“Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Isaiah 64:4

I have found that sometimes it seems like God is not answering my prayers when, in reality, He is asking me to wait and be patient.

This happened recently. I have been praying for over two years for guidance in an important decision. Guidance finally came when circumstances changed and the answer to my prayers became obvious. I had done the right thing by waiting. Sometimes, we just don’t have all the facts!

“… the fruit of the Spirit is … patience…” Galatians 5:22

Jesus said we should “pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

5 Ways to Safeguard Your Child’s Faith

1-minute devotion for Monday, 9/1/25

Jesus said, “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)

My Thoughts: Worldly influences prey upon our children every day. They may come through TV, social media, schools, music, or books. How can we protect these little ones? Here’s a start:

  1. Pray for them.
  2. Teach them God’s Word.
  3. Take them to church.
  4. Protect them from propaganda as much as you are able.
  5. Have conversations with your child when controversial subjects come up, letting them know they can talk to you, unafraid. Listen to them carefully. Respond with love and gentleness.
