God Is Our Loving Father

Do you ever need a shoulder to cry on? Someone to whom you can honestly express everything you’re feeling? Most of us keep these deepest thoughts inside where they only torment our soul. But there is One with whom you can express your deepest feelings openly and without fear. Talk to the Lord. He loves you and knows what’s in your heart and mind anyway.

A person can be hurt in such a traumatic way that it causes life-long depression or even PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). Their soul needs to be restored. Even when all else has failed, there is still hope. Your loving Father’s arms are open wide.

Have you read the book of Lamentations? It is a model for how we should express our laments to God. It was most likely written by the prophet Jeremiah. This was his lament at the time of Israel’s exile and the destruction of Jerusalem. The author pours out his heart to God. He says,

β€œThis is why I weep
    and my eyes overflow with tears.
No one is near to comfort me,
    no one to restore my spirit.” Lamentations 1:16 NIV

The Good Shepherd is the only one who can restore your soul.

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;” Psalm 23:1-3 KJV

We can talk to God about our deepest feelings of anger and despair. We can bring these feelings to God because He loves us and wants us to turn to Him for comfort. He wants us to come to Him because we know He is our loving Father.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV

Adding lament to your prayer life will cause your relationship with God to grow deeper and more intimate. It will restore your soul.

“The thought of my suffering and homelessness
    is bitter beyond words.
I will never forget this awful time,
    as I grieve over my loss.
Yet I still dare to hope
    when I remember this:

The faithful love of the Lord never ends!
    His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness;
    his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations 3:19-23 NLT

Verses for Meditation, 11/21/24

My thoughts: This verse assures us that God will guide us when we are surrendered to His will. Trust Him to guide you.

Prayer Power!

I like to copy the Scriptures I pray into my journal. These verses strengthen my faith. I will list some of those verses, but you can add verses that are specific to your prayer needs. Keep them handy (or better yet, memorize them!)

After fasting forty days and forty nights,Β he (Jesus) was hungry.Β The tempterΒ came to him and said, β€œIf you are the Son of God,Β tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered,Β β€œIt is written: β€˜Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4: 2-4 NIV

“Take … the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17 NIV

FIRST FORGIVE:
