Making Your Life Count

Imagine Jesus going with you out the door every morning. Wherever you’re off to, it’s a place God wants to spread His Love. We never know what opportunity may come our way or who God might put in our path.

Where are you sharing God’s love? In a church? A school? An office? Among the poor? The homeless? A foreign country? A prison? A nursing home? Wherever you go, you have the opportunity to show God’s love.

Jesus told his disciples,

“But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7 NASB

That is a remarkable statement Jesus made! How could it be better if he went away?

It’s better because when Jesus walked this Earth, He was only available when he was physically present. But now, the Holy Spirit is always with the believer and ready to help us. Today, the believer can truly walk with Jesus every day. He is always with us through the Holy Spirit.

Diligently studying God’s Word every day will do more to strengthen you and prepare you for God’s service than anything else. Not only will the Holy Spirit give you understanding about what you are reading, but He will also bring it to your remembrance when you need it later.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26 NASB

What a privilege! Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us each day!

This message is simple, but also essential to the Christian walk.

In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26 AMP

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper, so that He may be with you forever; 17 the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you.” John 14:15-17 NASB

Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”

Friday’s Verse, 3/24/23

“How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have performed for those who take refuge in You,
Before the sons of mankind!
You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of mankind;
You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues.” Psalm 31:19-20 NASB

Quote of the Week, 3/22/23

God calls His children to study, understand and defend the truth because the truth does matter to God. Faith, in and of itself, is not what God is looking for. It’s not enough to be sincere or intense. Faith, in and of itself, has no magic power. It’s a faithful, reasonable trust in the truth that matters to God. Trust placed in the correct and true God of the universe is what matters to God. That’s why God is so particular about truth and calls us to have an accurate understanding of who He is. And that’s why God has called us to treat heresy very seriously.

Update on My Laptop, 3/21/23

Thank you to everyone who encouraged me concerning the demise of my laptop! I got a new laptop and it is fantastic!

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” Romans 8:28 AMP

Message to My Fellow Bloggers

Yesterday I spilled my coffee right on my laptop keyboard!! It won’t even come on. That would be rice you see on my keyboard. I don’t have much confidence that it will work. I do everything on my laptop. I avoid using my iPhone whenever possible.

So it’s going to take a few days for me to get back full strength. For one thing I can’t type my my thumbs! I learned how to type in 1969 okay?

Fortunately, I have several posts scheduled ahead of time, but I am having a difficult time trying to read, like, and comment on your posts using my phone.

Please be patient with me. I may have to buy a new computer. Yikes!

Does God Call Retired People?

If you should ever think you’re too old for God to call you, think again. Did you know that Noah was an old man when God called him? In fact,

“Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.” Genesis 7:6

And then there’s Moses. Acts 7:23 says Moses was forty years old when he left Egypt and Acts 7:30 says that it was forty years later that the angel spoke to Moses through the burning bush. So Moses would have been eighty when God called him.

So yes, God does call retired people. I think the reason for this is obvious. Sometimes, He has to work on us for a long time before we’re ready. (I know this was the case with me! God had His work cut out for Him!)

Think about it. When will you ever have more free time? And think how much you have learned over the years!

You may not be called to build an arc or lead a nation, but God does want to use you for His purposes. It takes faith to follow Him where He leads. And I assure you, the enemy will try to convince you that God couldn’t use somebody like you.

But just look at the people God used: People like Peter (a simple fisherman), Matthew (a tax collector,) David (well known for his affair with Bathsheba), and Saul (who tried to destroy the early church).

The Bible says,

“But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

I urge you to live your life for the Savior. Surrender to His will. Resist Satan’s attempts to discourage you. Remember how the enemy tried to thwart the rebuilding of the wall?

“When Sanballat heard that we were rebuilding the wall, he became angry and was greatly incensed. He ridiculed the Jews, and in the presence of his associates and the army of Samaria, he said, “What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?”

Tobiah the Ammonite, who was at his side, said, “What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!”

Hear us, our God, for we are despised. Turn their insults back on their own heads. Give them over as plunder in a land of captivity. Do not cover up their guilt or blot out their sins from your sight, for they have thrown insults in the face of[b] the builders.

6 So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.” Nehemiah 4:1-6

Look again at the things the enemy said. He says these same kinds of things today.

May God’s Word speak to you today, bringing encouragement and strength as you walk in His will and His purpose for your life.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (emphasis mine)

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard,
    and no mind has imagined
what God has prepared
for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

“Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep…” Acts 13:36 (emphasis mine)
