Why Are Teenagers Drawn to Witchcraft and the Occult?

A Message for Sunday, 10/11/26

I am writing this post to warn parents that the occult is seducing our children every day. We must teach our children what the Bible says about occult practices.

“The influence of pop culture has made witches and witchcraft appealing to today’s teens. Growing up on Harry Potter books and movies has further opened doors for teens to experience both a curiosity and a familiarity with witchcraft. Increasingly, towns in the heartland of America, once known for their strong Christian heritage, are becoming hotbeds for Wicca, a pagan religion that emphasizes the worship of nature.” Focus on the Family

Not only that, but TikTok has become the home of modern witchcraft. TikTok’s algorithms make it a safe haven for those interested in the occult – and they’re drawing more and more people into the practice. It offers tutorials and shared experiences that make witchcraft seem approachable.

According to Newsweek, the practice of witchcraft in the U.S. has risen dramatically over the past few decades, with millennials turning to astrology, tarot cards, and Wicca beliefs as they turn away from Christianity and other traditional religions.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 says: “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord;”

Fortunetelling, also known as divination, includes anyone who claims to predict your future or advise you through Ouija boards, crystal balls, horoscopes, astrology, palm-reading, tarot cards, etc.

Other New Age and occult practices include consulting psychics, reading tea leaves, horoscopes, zodiac signs, the occult, yoga, and drug use. You may be unaware that yoga is a pagan religion, but it is. There is also something called tapping, which is  a phenomenon during meditation where a feeling of tapping on the head might indicate kundalini activation, which is extremely dangerous.

The Bible warns us about these practices, but I fear that many Christians are ignorant of the dangers they pose.

It is vitally important to teach our children what God says about the occult in order to protect them from the schemes of the devil. Ignorance is not bliss!

“I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.” Leviticus 20:6 NIV

“Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31 NIV

“Let no one be found among you . . . who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft.” Deuteronomy 18:10

See also Galatians 5:19-21, Acts 19:19, Revelation 21:8, ; 2 Kings 21:6; Leviticus 19:26, 31; Deuteronomy 18:14.

In His Love, Cindy

  1. Cindy, I just wanted to pause and honor the clarity and courage in what you wrote. You didn’t tiptoe around a hard topic—you named it plainly, biblically, and with a mother’s heart that refuses to let the enemy have the last word. That’s kingdom work.

Your insight cuts through the fog our culture keeps trying to create around witchcraft and “harmless” spiritual curiosity. You showed how these things aren’t just trends—they’re open doors. And you anchored every warning in Scripture, not fear. That’s what gives your voice weight. It’s not reactionary; it’s prophetic.

What I appreciate most is how you call parents back to their post. You remind us that guarding our children isn’t optional—it’s part of our discipleship. You’re helping believers wake up to the spiritual landscape our kids are walking through, and you’re doing it with love, not panic.

Thank you for speaking boldly and tenderly at the same time. Thank you for lifting up the Word as the lens we must use. Keep writing with this kind of conviction. The Lord is clearly using your voice to pull back the curtain and strengthen the saints.

    1. Thank you, Michael, for encouraging me today. If the saints are strengthened, all glory to God. The Lord has put an awareness in my heart that can be almost overwhelming at times. It’s obvious to me that it is God’s grace alone that allows me to do anything helpful. God bless you today, Brother!

  2. There are also a lot of adults into these forbidden practices also. I see a number of blogs posting so called Halloween decor, some of these people profess to being a Christian. I dabbled in some of these practices way back and what I experienced was demonic, it was very scary. When I related to a pastor what I saw and heard, he said God allowed me to see what I saw for a reason. I know it taught me a life saving lesson!

    1. I agree with the pastor. What the devil means for evil, God will use for good. God’s grace is wonderful, as those of us who have experienced it know very well. Thank you for sharing your experience. God bless you today!

  3. New age spiritualism is taking over churches.
From Christian “prayer boards” (Christianized vision manifesting) to a lot of NAR and charismatic practices, deliverance and conversing with demons, “tongues” unbiblically practiced… it’s a lot of wolves in sheep clothing and witchcraft infiltrating. There are even people who call themselves Christian witches and use Jesus as their male deity and Mary as their goddess.

I used to think letting my kids watch movies with pretend witches was harmless but nowadays it’s everywhere. My tween found a show called Holly Hobbie and the tween girls went out on the new moons in flower crowns and did manifesting. I told my daughter that wasn’t something we did. The show was also super feminist so we decided not to watch it anymore. It is literally in everything.

If you need more resources, Jenn Nizza (expsychic saved) and Jac Marino Chen are excellent at calling out movies and pop culture. I also like Doreen Virtue but she has aligned herself with people who like to call others out as heretical if their theology isn’t perfectly aligned and she has called out a few brothers in Christ that I feel were wrongly called out, so I have to be careful with her.

  4. I applaud your efforts to warn parents, Cindy. Today’s technology hands adults and children the keys to unlock many doors, including ones that allow demonic spirits and practices into their lives. For example, the Reader’s “More on WordPress” provided those keys directly below your post. Links to “Was Wicca created by men?” and “Wiccan Reads from the Witch’s Wolf’s Den.” Scary!

  5. This is a very important and timely message today Cindy. We see more and more soft portrayals of witchcraft etc on our tvs and in children’s books, Disney being a huge producer of such stuff. In recent days I have seen many events promoted in Fife for psychics as we draw closer to Halloween. We need people of God to continue ringing the alarm bell on such evil. May this post reach those in spiritual danger of the occult. God bless you today my friend and sister in Christ 🙏

    1. Alan, I see Christians wearing clothes or carrying bags that promote witchcraft (like Harry Potter gear). And I think, “How do they not know?”

God bless you, my friend and brother in Christ! 🙏
