Someone once said:

“Strong minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, weak minds discuss people.”

Conclusion: Gossip – constantly talking about other people – is the lowest form of conversation.

“A gossip betrays a confidence,
    but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.” Proverbs 11:13 NIV

“A perverse person stirs up conflict,
    and a gossip separates close friends.” Proverbs 16:28 NIV

Gossip may be interesting and entertaining, but it hurts the person being talked about.

“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” Luke 6:31 NIV

  1. Thank you, Cindy, for this timely reminder. Gossip can seem harmless in the moment, but as these verses make so clear, our words can either build relationships up or quietly tear them apart. Proverbs 16:28 is especially sobering: a gossip can separate close friends. We need to be so careful with what we say about others, and always ask whether our words reflect the love and grace of Christ. A very worthwhile devotion. God bless you, Cindy.

    1. Gossip is enticing; and most of us know who has the juiciest gossip. In the past, I have found myself drawn to those people because they would tell what they know. But this is not pleasing to God. And if they gossip about others, they will probably gossip about you! Blessings, Steve!

  4. A very important post Cindy – to be blunt, gossip is sin. Let the Spirit open our eyes to it and guide us away from it, that instead we may encourage one another. God bless you today as you serve Him my friend and sister in Christ 🙏
