Death, when it finally arrives, simply means that the believer leaves behind a leaky, patchwork, travel-worn tent and steps into a wondrous permanent body, designed to last forever. I like that idea by David Jeremiah, “to be swallowed up by life.” It immediately reminded me of Jonah – there was a man who was swallowed up by life! That is our security in our Father God. Dear Cindy, thank you for sharing this beautiful and encouraging thought today. I really love that phrase, “swallowed up by life.” What a wonderful picture of the hope we have in Christ. This earthly tent becomes worn and weary, but for believers there is the promise of something far greater and eternal.
As someone who enjoys walking and spending time outdoors, I also like Paul’s illustration of life being like camping in a temporary tent. One day, we will leave behind these fragile earthly bodies and step into the glorious reality God has prepared for us.
Thank you for this reminder to keep our eyes fixed not only on the journey, but on our eternal home. Blessings to you, Cindy. 🙏
