1-Minute Devotion for Thursday, 7/23/26
How do we show Jesus that we love Him? He told His disciples,
“If you love me, keep my commands.” John 14:15 NIV
“Such love is not a matter of mere emotions, though emotion is not ruled out. Rather, true love is expressed in obedience. As Jesus loved the Father and obeyed him, so those who loved Jesus would in turn obey him.” Asbury Bible Commentary
Someone said, “Well, we all sin every day,” suggesting it would be impossible to obey Him fully. But isn’t that just an attempt to let ourselves off the hook?
If we truly love Jesus, we will obey His teaching because we trust Him. We will study our Bibles and seek to please Him. I’m not talking about being legalistic; I’m talking about desiring to follow Him, obey Him, and walk with Him each day.
Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32 NIV (emphasis mine)

Amen! May the love of Christ dwell in us richly (Colossians 3:16), which then will wage war with our flesh. In Him, we have the victory over sin in our body:
Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
