God’s Protection, Psalm 91

1-Minute Devotion for Friday, 6/12/26

“Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. Psalm 91:3-4
NIV

This word picture of God’s protection is rich with meaning. It warms my heart and encourages my soul every time I read it. The “fowler’s snare” is a metaphor for hidden danger, unexpected spiritual traps, and the deceptive schemes of the enemy. Pestilence brings to mind a deadly disease that spreads over a wide area.

A mother bird will spread her wings over her babies to protect them from storms and predators. She will allow herself to be wounded to protect them. She keeps them warm and sheltered, and the baby birds feel safe in her embrace. Such is God’s fierce love for humanity.” Jeremiah Study Bible Notes

  1. This is one of my favorite Psalms, Cindy. In my worship this morning, and meditations in Psalms~ repeated readings to Dwell in my heart~ I chose to go and read this one again when I saw your title.
    As I pray for strength and health to journey to KC for my granddaughter’s birthday, I prayed this protection over all my children, family, and friends. I won’t live in fear with my health struggles. I’m mustering power and strength to make the drive knowing God will protect me~ I’m using discernment and wisdom. God, thank you for Cindy and her witness. We love you and Henry.
    Due to my arm and low blood counts, I’m not taking Finn. My twin and brother-in-law will pick her up. May God bless you and Henry and family this weekend my precious sister. ♥️🙏♥️🐾

  2. I love this Psalm. Years ago, I put the first 6 verses to music, imagining the way David might have sung it. I would sing it to my children at bedtime, especially when they were afraid. A couple of decades later, I heard my daughter singing it to her baby. Precious moments … ❤
