Why God Pursues Each One of Us

1-minute devotion for Monday, 3/23/26

Have you ever read a passage of Scripture that was so personal that it seems to have been written just for you? I have. It is the verse below.

Jesus said, “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off?  And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off.  In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish.” Matthew 18:12-14 NIV

I am reminded that He did that for me. When I wandered off, God didn’t say, “Oh well,” or “She’s a lost cause.”

No! He went after me and brought me home! Those verses are very personal for me. We serve a God who is merciful, so merciful!

He will go after one lost sheep because He loves each one of us. He loves each individual person. He loves you!

  1. As you know Cindy, I was a lost sheep too and God sent Hugh Keirs one of His shepherds to find me. I loved that man and thank Father God for him everyday. I also thank Him for you my friend and sister – God bless you today 🙏

    1. Alan, His love for us is very personal. It’s not easy to grasp that He loves me that much. That’s why Paul prayed that they would, “know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge”.
God bless you richly, my brother and friend! 🙏🤗

  2. Like you, Cindy, Matthew 18:12-14 NIV is very personal to me. Another verse that supports my soul is 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” My firm-foundation verse decades ago, and rock-solid to this day.

  3. Cindy, thank you for this beautiful devotion. I love how you remind us that God’s mercy is deeply personal—He doesn’t just love “the world” in theory, but pursues each one of us by name. Your words are a tender encouragement to anyone who has ever felt like the one who wandered off. And what a perfect closing prayer from Psalm 122—may we always remember that God’s heart for the lost is also a heart for His people and His purposes.
