An old minister once said, “It’s not what you say, but what you do and who you are that makes the impact.”
Yes, we are to be holy and turn away from sinful desires. That’s true. But is that what he’s talking about? I think he’s talking about loving your neighbor.

It’s interesting that in the very next chapter (same sermon) Jesus says NOT to do your “acts of righteousness” in front of people. The difference? Motives! That people “may see your good works and glorify GOD,” versus “to be seen by them” and glorify oneself.
This takes some soul-searching …
