I want to share two blessings that I could have easily overlooked and taken for granted.
- As I write, I never tire of watching the sparrows play outside my window. It’s a special blessing because they remind me of what Jesus said.
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10:29-31 NIV)
Below is a video I took from my desk. These birds bathe almost every day and I never get tired of watching them.
2. I’m also blessed to live at the top of a hill which gives me a magnificent view of the sunrise from my front porch and the sunset from my side porch.


Of course, I could list a million more blessings. But maybe these two will serve to get you started on counting your own blessings.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:8 NIV
Count Your Blessings was especially popular in the United Kingdom during the 1904-1905 Welsh Revival, the largest Christian revival in Wales during the 20th century. It is reported that this song was sung at every service!
In addition to the upbeat, simple tune that people have found easy to remember, its message has been uplifting people for generations.
“Like a beam of sunlight,” wrote J.H. Hall, Oatman’s biographer, in “Biography of Gospel Song and Hymn Writers, “(’Count Your Blessings’) has brightened up the dark places of the earth.”
May your spirits be lifted as you count your many blessings!

Oh I love your little fellowship of sparrows taking turns at the bird bath. They are such a sweet reminder that God is always watching us as well.

I love watching them! These little sparrows actually “take over” the bird bath and feeder, keeping the more beautiful birds from coming. Not everyone wants them around. Even though they are the lowest on the “totem pole”, God chose to tell of his care for them in His Word. There’s a lesson in that! Blessings, Pastor Pete!

Not long ago, I read one of those things that go around on Facebook that asked a question. The question was asking people to tell the one thing that frustrates them the most about grocery shopping. The comments went all over the place with people unloading their complaints about shopping for groceries. It hit me like a ton of bricks how very petty we sometimes are about the huge blessing we have in being able to shop for food like we do in this country. If only I, and all of us, would count our blessings instead of our complaints!

That’s a beautiful sunset! I never knew sparrows were low on the totem pole. I’ve always enjoyed seeing them hop around. They seem so sweet.

I came across this information by accident when I googled sparrows. I found numerous articles about “how to keep sparrows away”, etc. They keep away cardinals and other colorful birds. I find them adorable and their antics delightful! I think they’re sweet, too! Thanks for commenting. Blessings, Evette!

Have you ever read “1000 Gifts” by Ann VosKamp? Listing little blessings really helped open my eyes to all the little things Jesus does around me that I might otherwise pass by. I love these two you’ve listed. 😃

I do love the soft and adorable little sparrows. I thank them for serenading me when they’re in our bushes just as I am thanking you now for the morning serenade. What a blessing! 🙂
