I think a lot of us have burdens that we don’t talk about. We just carry them on our shoulders alone. We carry them with us everywhere and we can’t let them go even though we want to.
It might be something terrible that happened to you in the past. It might be something cruel that someone did to hurt you. Or, it might be something you did yourself that was wrong and it haunts you. Whatever your burden is, the solution is the same: Turn to Jesus. He said,
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NIV
What is your burden? What do you carry around that you cannot unload? What makes you so weary? Give it to Jesus. Go to your Bible expecting God to teach you. He will. Go to the Lord in prayer and talk to Him about this thing you cannot unload. He will free you from its grip.
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 NASB
Isn’t it wonderful when you can share your hurts with someone who completely understands, doesn’t judge you, and has sympathy for your situation? Someone who wants to comfort you, show you love and compassion, and help you? That person is Jesus.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses…” Hebrews 4:15 NIV
How long have you been holding on to this hurt? Aren’t you ready to let it go?
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 NIV
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 NIV
This sweet hymn, written over 100 years ago, still cries out how accessible our Savior really is if we will only reach out to Him.
With Love, Cindy

I am thankful that we can turn to the Lord with anything that weighs heavy on our hearts. What a wonderful Father we have who cares, loves, listens, forgives and heals.

This is a very helpful reminder. I’m not always sure “when” it’s time to turn something over to Him. I can’t just sit around and expect Jesus to do everything for me. Most times I wait too long.

I’ve found that there are some things I just can’t fix. Those are the burdens I must talk to Jesus about and let Him carry the burden. Thank you for sharing. Blessings, Dennis!

I remember it from childhood, too. I hadn’t thought of it in a long time, but I was reminded of it as I contemplated Matthew 11:28. Blessings, Katherine!
