Quote of the Week, 11/18/20

Often God has to shut a door in our face, so that He can subsequently open the door through which He wants us to go.”

Tuesday’s Verse, 11/17/20

“But the godly will flourish like palm trees
and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon.
For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house.
They flourish in the courts of our God.
Even in old age they will still produce fruit;” Psalm 92:12-14a

Sunday’s Memory Verse, 11/15/20

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2 NIV

Focus on Christ

As Christians, we may debate the meaning of certain passages. And I’m pretty sure none of us have it down 100% because Paul said, “Now we see through a glass darkly.” (1 Corinthians 13:12 KJV)

But there is one thing I think we can all agree on. We must love – love our brothers and sisters in Christ, love our enemies, love our neighbor, and love God.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.  If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? .” Matthew 5:43-46 NIV

“Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31 NIV

Whatever is going on in my spiritual journey, the Lord always brings me back to this truth: God wants me to walk in love. There is nothing more important.

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.  And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV

“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…” Hebrews 12:2

We need to keep our focus on Jesus. He will perfect our faith. That means we will grow spiritually and develop a stronger faith if our focus is on Him. We should always be growing spiritually. The evidence of this will be a life that loves.

“If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn’t love others, I would only be making noise. If I had the gift of prophecy and knew all about what is going to happen in the future, knew everything about everything, but didn’t love others, what good would it do? Even if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, I would still be worth nothing at all without love. If I gave everything I have to poor people, and if I were burned alive for preaching the Gospel but didn’t love others, it would be of no value whatever.

Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.” 1 Corinthians 13: 1-7 TLB

Friday’s Verse, 11/13/20

“If I had not confessed the sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened.
 But God did listen!
He paid attention to my prayer.
Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer
or withdraw his unfailing love from me.” Psalm 66:18-20 NLT

God delights to meet the faith of one who looks up to Him and says, “Lord, You know that I cannot do this – but I believe that You can!”
