“Remember the former things, those of long ago;
    I am God, and there is no other;

I make known the end from the beginning,
    from ancient times, what is still to come.

I say, ‘My purpose will stand,
    and I will do all that I please.’
From the east I summon a bird of prey;
    from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose.
What I have said, that I will bring about;

Understanding Noble Character in Berean Jews

1-minute devotion for Friday, 7/18/25

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11 (emphasis mine)

What does noble character mean?

virtuous, good, honorable, honest, upright, upstanding, decent, worthy,  uncorrupted, moral, ethical, reputable

A person of noble character will examine the Scriptures to find truth. They do not examine the Scriptures to prove their own opinion. Big difference.

“Do you not know?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

The Call to Make Disciples

1-minute devotion for Friday, 7/11/25

Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (emphasis mine)

Making a disciple is more than leading someone in the sinner’s prayer. It includes teaching and supporting them in their faith. Making a disciple is a tall order and not one that someone can easily accomplish alone. The Church must work together, each one doing his part. We must ask ourselves: Am I doing my part?

The Power of God’s Love: Insights from Lamentations 3:21-24

Verses for Meditation, 7/3/25

Israel had been decimated by Assyrian armies… Judah’s elite (including Daniel and his three Hebrew friends) had been deported to Babylon… The temple was obliterated, the walls of the city flattened. (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

Yet amid the devastation, the writer of Lamentations says,

“Yet this I call to mind
    and therefore I have hope:  Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
 They are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
    therefore I will wait for him.”” Lamentations 3:21-24

Rediscovering Your First Love in Faith

Note: This is one of the first verses I ever underlined in my Bible decades ago. Do you remember reading a promise in the Bible that you had never read before? It was thrilling! Maybe this is what the book of Revelation is referring to as “your first love”: The thrill of getting to know God through His Word.

“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” Revelation 2:4 NASB
