Quote of the Week, 3/9/22

We must mirror God’s love in the midst of a world full of hatred. We are the mirrrors of God’s love, so we may show Jesus by our lives.”

Corrie ten Boom, Holocaust Survivor

NOTE: Corrie ten Boom and her family helped Jews escape the Nazi Holocaust during World War II and, by all accounts, saved nearly 800 lives. Corrie was caught and remanded to the notorious Ravensbrück concentration camp, near Berlin. On December 16, 1944, Corrie was released for reasons unknown. She began a worldwide ministry that took her to more than 60 countries where she preached forgiveness and God’s love.

Imagine Your Life Without Freedom

Suddenly soldiers storm into your home and take by force all modes of communication (cell phones, TVs, radios, computers, iPads, all electronics). There is nothing you can do. They are armed with assault rifles and they’re looking for an excuse to use one. You have been cut off from the rest of the world.

If you are reading this, you are probably living in freedom. But what if tomorrow enemies invaded the city where you live and your freedom was stolen? Can you begin to imagine how your life would change?

Yesterday, I watched the movie The Hiding Place.  If you haven’t read the book and/or seen the movie, I encourage you to do it. The Hiding Place will inspire you to be the best Christian you can be.

The Hiding Place is a true story, which reveals the insidious horrors that took place within the walls of the notorious concentration camp, Ravensbruck.

After a fellow citizen betrays Corrie, Betsy, and their elderly father, Casper ten Boom for hiding Jews in their home during the Nazis occupation of Holland in 1944, the family is taken from their home and thrown into prison.

While imprisoned at Ravensbruck, Corrie and Betsy endured starvation, chilling cold, filthy, lice infested beds, inhumane over crowding, severe beatings, cruelty and more, yet they clung to their faith in Jesus Christ and shared it with those desperate for love.

Corrie said, “There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.” She spoke from experience.

As we celebrate the 4th of July here in the U.S., I hope we never take our country for granted. May we remember to thank God for this wonderful blessing called freedom.
