Until Christ Returns

1-minute devotion for Thursday, 12/18/25

“Therefore be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
” James 5:7-8 NASB

James urges his readers to “stand firm” (lit., “strengthen your hearts”). This expression has the idea of providing solid support, of establishing a person, and thus of enabling one to stand unmoved by trouble. The reason given for standing firm is again that “the Lord’s coming is near.” The day when things will be set right is imminent. This confident expectation will make the faint heart strong. What Is Love?

Verses for Meditation for Thursday, 9/25/25

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

The Bible tells us why love is vitally important, and then describes what it looks like. There’s a lot here to meditate on! We should probably memorize it. 😊

The Power of Patience in Prayer

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 9/2/25

“Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.” Isaiah 64:4

I have found that sometimes it seems like God is not answering my prayers when, in reality, He is asking me to wait and be patient.

This happened recently. I have been praying for over two years for guidance in an important decision. Guidance finally came when circumstances changed and the answer to my prayers became obvious. I had done the right thing by waiting. Sometimes, we just don’t have all the facts!

“… the fruit of the Spirit is … patience…” Galatians 5:22

Jesus said we should “pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1

Overlooking Offenses: A Biblical Perspective

Sunday’s Memory Verse for 5/11/25

“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to OVERLOOK AN OFFENSE.” Proverbs 19:11 NIV

Have you ever been offended by what someone said or did? Of course! We all have! But did you know that God tells us to overlook an offense?

Over 30 years ago, my Bible study teacher recognized that I was upset about something. The next time I saw her, she gave me an index card with Proverbs 19:11 written on it. She probably had no idea that it was going to change my life. As I opened my heart to God’s Word, something wonderful happened! The Truth set me free!

Read about it in my post, Love Is Strong Spiritual Warfare, HERE.

“For whatever was thus written in former days was written for our instruction, that by [our steadfast and patient] endurance and the encouragement [drawn] from the Scriptures we might hold fast to and cherish hope.” Romans 15:4 AMPC

Comment: Reading the Old Testament will give us strength and patience for today.

Verses for Meditation, 8/1/24

“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:12-14 NLT

Verses for Meditation, 2/23/23

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT

Verses for Meditation, 11/10/22

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:12-14 NIV
