James urges his readers to “stand firm” (lit., “strengthen your hearts”). This expression has the idea of providing solid support, of establishing a person, and thus of enabling one to stand unmoved by trouble. The reason given for standing firm is again that “the Lord’s coming is near.” The day when things will be set right is imminent. This confident expectation will make the faint heart strong. My Thoughts: Keep planting seeds because it is God whowill make them grow. If you know very worldly people, figuring out how to share the Gospel can be overwhelming. Maybe they are neighbors or co-workers you care about. May this verse encourage you to keep planting seeds! Pray that the Lord will make them grow!

My Thoughts: Older Christian women have a lot of wisdom to share. I hope you have an older woman to look up to and turn to for advice. My grandmothers have gone on to be with the Lord. They were wise women, and I miss them so much!

My Thoughts: I’m reminded of the day, many years ago, when the Holy Spirit brought this verse to my mind in a specific situation. It isn’t always easy, but it’s God’s way and how we should live.

"Because of the Lordβs great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." Lamentations 3:22-23
This is a familiar verse to many of us. To understand the depth of meaning in this verse, we must understand what happened before Jeremiah said these words.
Jeremiah prophesied to the people of Israel, but the people didn’t like what God had to say, so they listened to the false prophets instead. They hated Jeremiah because he spoke the truth. They threw him in a pit and threw stones at him while he sat in the mud.
Because they refused to listen to God, Jerusalem was destroyed, and the people were exiled to Babylon. Jeremiah grieved deeply for Israel, the people and city he loved.
Look at verses 19-21 of Lamentations 3. Jeremiah said,
“I remember my affliction and my wandering, Β Β Β Β the bitternessΒ and the gall. I well remember them, Β Β Β Β and my soul is downcastΒ within me. Yet this I call to mind Β Β Β Β and therefore I have hope:
“Because of the Lordβs great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
When the worst has happened, and we don’t understand why God has allowed it, if we remember God’s great love, compassion, and faithfulness, we will have hope.

"This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus." Ephesians 3:6
In his Holman New Testament Commentary on Ephesians, Max Anders helps us understand why Paul repeatedly emphasizes the oneness of the body… It’s because Jews and Gentiles worshiping together was such a miracle… For example, a Jew would walk 150 miles out of his way to avoid going through Samaria! It was a truly revolutionary time in the church.
Read the entire 3rd chapter of Ephesians and note where Paul says, “For this reason,” and “Therefore”. It will help you better understand verses that we often read or recite out of context.
