Verse for Meditation, 9/5/24

“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14 NIV

Today I turned 73! It crossed my mind just how fleeting my youth had been. It seems like yesterday when I was a college student, when I was a new mother, when my children were adorable little toddlers learning letters and numbers. How did it go by so fast? (And who is that old lady in my mirror?)

Then I thought about what the Bible says,

“You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then vanishes [into thin air].” James 4:14 AMP

Our present life here on this earth is like a vanishing mist. Eternity is forever! I’m beginning to understand how quickly this life passes by. But eternity with Jesus awaits all of us who believe and trust in Him. Now that gives us a lot to think about!

Quote of the Week, 9/4/24

Parents have the primary responsibility to raise their children to become spiritual champions … local churches need to support parents in that endeavor. Our primary focus needs to be on children … and growing their biblical worldview. If we do that, we’ll be able to grow the 3 percent of adults who are disciples in America today to a larger proportion.” George Barna

Quote of the Week, 8/28/24

“The authority of Scripture means that all the words in Scripture are God’s words in such a way that to disbelieve or disobey any word of Scripture is to disbelieve or disobey God” (Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology, page 73).

This doctrine forms the basis of apologetics, for we can only appeal to the Scripture when we trust its authority. The correctness of every belief, value, opinion, statement, and sermon is finally settled by the question: What does the Bible say?

Monday’s Verse, 8/26/24

“As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;” Psalm 103:12-13 NIV
