Making Disciples: The True Call of the Gospel

Jesus said, “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you…” Matt 28:19-20

The command of the Great Commission is to “make disciples.” That means to teach or train people to follow and obey Christ.

Some churches are eager to “get people saved”, but they ignore all Scripture that makes people uncomfortable. Instead, they present Jesus as the way to riches and success.

Is this “easy salvation” the true Gospel? If it isn’t, we must ask ourselves this: Are people really getting saved?

What about “Take up your cross and follow me.” ?

Jesus said, ” “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)

What about “The narrow gate“?

Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” Matthew 7:13-14 ESV

The Apostle Paul warned the Corinthian Church,

“But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.” 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 Read full chapter

The KJV says it like this:

“For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus …”

What is another Jesus? It’s a created god they named “Jesus.” It is an idol. It is not the King of Kings and Lord of Lords of the Bible!

The devil will try to lead people astray by attracting them to a different Jesus and a different gospel.

“For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” 2 Timothy 4:3-4

My thoughts: We better make sure we are leading people to the authentic Jesus, not “another Jesus.” The fact that a preacher is popular and draws big crowds means nothing. That isn’t the basis for judging whether or not the message is Biblical. Examining the Bible is!

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11

People who follow a false gospel often fall away in difficult times. I’ve seen it happen with my own eyes. It almost happened to me. If you want to know more about my experience with a false gospel, see my post Rescued From Word of Faith.

The Danger of Perverting the Gospel

1-minute read for Tuesday, 4/29/25

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse.”

“Am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-8 and 10 NIV (emphasis mine)

Comments: “False teachers do not look dangerous; they appear enlightened, compassionate, even Christ-like. But their doctrine subtly shifts the focus from Christ to self—your breakthrough, your destiny, your potential. This is a different gospel, and Paul warns that even if an angel preaches it, we are not to receive it.”

Understanding ‘Another Jesus’: A Biblical Perspective

1-minute read for 4/22/25

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’” Matthew 7:21-23 NIV

How heartbreaking that some people put their trust in a false god. Sadly, many do. Some of these people even believe they are saved. But in reality, they worship another Jesus. This is what Jesus was talking about in the verses above.

The Apostle Paul said it like this,

“For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, this you tolerate very well!” 2 Corinthians 11:4 NASB

God’s Word warns us. May we seek Truth and embrace it. Knowing God’s Word is our protection against deception.

Monday’s Verse, 3/18/24

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.” Galatians 1:6-7 NIV

My thoughts: A “gospel” that requires God’s grace plus human effort is not the true Gospel. Only the shed blood of Christ can save us.
