Abortion’s Hidden Trauma: Women’s Stories

Many, if not most women are traumatized after having an abortion. But you will never hear about that because Pro-Abortion proponents don’t want you to know the heart-breaking, hidden side of abortion.

The following quotes are just a few testimonies from real women who had abortions and what they want other women to know.

It’s been 50 years, but I am still grieved. Only through the forgiveness of Jesus have I been able to live with what I did.

Nobody will ever understand what you will go through after it’s all done. Abortion doesn’t make a baby go away, it just makes a dead baby.”

I pray God forgives me and that someday I’ll see my baby in heaven. It’s been 26 years and I will never forget.”

I’m 51 and had my abortion when I was 18. I think about my baby every day.”

I am 70 years old; I had an abortion 30 years ago. I still regret my abortion every day of my life. I think about the baby that I aborted.…

I killed my baby, it has been 33 years, please don’t kill your baby it will change your life forever…”

I made the biggest mistake of my life and didn’t see it, until it was too late. I regret going through with the abortion. I’m lost, hurt, and the guilt is eating me alive.

We are told as women we have a choice but no one explains what we are choosing. I doubt many would choose to feel the way I have for 10 years so that is why I am SILENT NO MORE.

There is no safety net at Planned Parenthood to protect women who may be at risk for traumatization. They don’t care.

A textbook of the National Abortion Federation has identified many “negative reactions” (p.28-29) that some women have after abortion; some are trauma symptoms: nightmares about babies, insomnia, negative emotions of
guilt, anger, worthlessness, and shame, “blocking out the experience,” avoiding things that trigger memories about the abortion, “engaging in self-punishing behaviors such as substance abuse . . . and relationships with abusive partners,” suicidal thoughts, “relentless thoughts of
being a bad person,” and various self-destructive behaviors (Baker, Beresford, Halvorson-Boyd, & Garrity, 1999 pp.28-29).

Current Data on Side Effects of Abortion

In Rue et al. (2004), 30% of the American women reported nightmares associated with their abortion.

Intrusion symptoms reported after abortion include nightmares, flashbacks, and memories that “seemed to intrude despite trying to forget” (Dykes, Slade, & Haywood, 2010).

In a study comparing 331 Russian and 217 American women, 48% of the Russians and 65% of the Americans reported one or more intrusion symptoms
specifically related to a past abortion (Rue, Coleman, Rue, & Reardon, 2004).

There is a lot more data. You can read the article by Martha Shuping, M.D., M.A. at Counterpoint: Long-Lasting Distress after Abortion to access more studies.

Did You Know?

“Abortion is known as a main cause of maternal mortality, life-threatening complications such as hemorrhage, fever, and infection on the one hand, and psychological disorders such as regret, guilt, smoking, alcoholism, self-destructive behaviors, and even suicide on the other.” NIH (National Institutes of Health)

You probably haven’t heard about these studies and for obvious reasons. The abortion industry doesn’t want you to know! They want women to believe that pro-life groups want to take away their right to health care. They want women to believe that their pregnancy isn’t a baby. It’s a clump of cells. This is all propaganda. If they really sought the welfare of the woman as they purport to do, they would show her an ultrasound and make sure she had all the facts. But, well, they would lose a lot of money if they did that!

“Woe to those who call evil good
    and good evil,
who put darkness for light
    and light for darkness,
who put bitter for sweet
and sweet for bitter.” Isaiah 5:20

“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.” 1 Timothy 4:1-2

Friday’s Verses, 10/25/24

“I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need. I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]” From the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:12-13 AMP

A Verse for Meditation, 10/24/24

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 NIV

Tuesday’s Verses, 10/22/24

“People were bringing children to Him so that He would touch and bless them, but the disciples reprimanded them and discouraged them [from coming]. But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and He said to them, “Allow the children to come to Me; do not forbid them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive and welcome the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”  And He took the children [one by one] in His arms and [a]blessed them [with kind, encouraging words], placing His hands on them.” Mark 10:13-16 AMP

Footnote: Mark 10:16 The basic meaning of the Greek word found here for “blessed” is to speak kindly of someone. Jesus was probably giving the children encouragement as only He could, with His infallible knowledge of each child’s future.

Monday’s Verse, 10/21/24

“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1 NIV (emphasis mine)

This is the parable:

“In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’

“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:2-8 NIV

Sunday’s Memory Verses, 10/20/24

“My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2:1-5 NIV

Love Does Not Affirm a Dangerous Path

We must not affirm sinful behavior because it has become acceptable in our culture. If you aren’t sure about which behaviors are evil and/or dangerous, the truth can be found in the Bible. God’s Word is Truth and the final authority. The Word says,

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV

Going along with anything and everything is not love. Sin brings pain and heartache. It always does. That’s why God warns us against it.

“This is the way sin works: it comes covered in an attractive veneer that hides its evil and hideous consequences.” Pastor David Jeremiah

Standing for truth is not being legalistic, as some accuse. Speaking the truth protects the innocent. Truth is the antidote for deception and deception is the enemy of mankind.

Standing for truth isn’t hard to do when evil is something society detests. But what about when sinful behavior is something our culture affirms? What sin does our society affirm? All you have to do is watch TV to find out. TV is filled with stories that seek to normalize sinful behaviors.

I never thought I’d see the day when women would celebrate because they had won the right to murder their unborn baby. But many women in America demand abortion rights during all months of pregnancy, and they call it healthcare. It’s not healthcare we’re talking about. It’s killing your baby for convenience. If we’re going to have this discussion, we should at least be honest about it.

There’s a reason abortion advocates call it healthcare. It’s more palatable to call it healthcare or women’s rights than to call it what it is.

Abortion is just one evil that our culture affirms. There are many others. My question for you is: Will you love? Or will you affirm evil? Affirming evil is not love. It takes courage to stand up for what is right.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6 NIV

At one time, I didn’t understand this verse. Why would anyone delight in evil? Now I understand.

What other sinful behaviors does our culture affirm that are, in reality, dangerous paths? Will you stand up for truth to protect the innocent and/or the misinformed? It won’t be easy, but it will be loving.

Friday’s Verse, 10/18/24

“Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble. So watch yourselves.” Luke 17:1-3 NIV

Jeremiah Study Bible Notes: “Jesus employed this imagery to emphasize the seriousness of leading young believers into spiritual error…”

Verses for Meditation, 10/17/24

He (Jesus) said to the crowd: “When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘It’s going to rain,’ and it does. And when the south wind blows, you say, ‘It’s going to be hot,’ and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time? Luke 12:54-56 NIV
