Trusting God When Times Are Tough

Understanding “Hallowed Be Thy Name”

“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9 AKJV

The meaning of this petition (Matthew 6:9) is, “Let thy name be celebrated, venerated, and esteemed as holy everywhere, and receive from all people proper honour.” It is thus the expression of a wish or desire, on the part of the worshipper, that the name of God, or that God himself, should be held everywhere in proper veneration. Albert Barnes.

Advocacy for Orphans and the Oppressed

Obtain justice for the orphan,
Plead for the widow’s case.” Isaiah 1:17 NASB Read full chapter

Note: Justice for the orphan (Cheyne); see that he is not wronged – be his champion. Plead for the widow; i.e. plead her cause in the courts… lean towards her, as if her advocate. The widow and the orphan were taken under God’s special protection from the time of Moses, and constantly commended to the tender care of the righteous (Pulpit Commentary)

Cleansed From a Guilty Conscience

Verses for Meditation, 1/16/25

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:22-23 NIV

Note: Our hope is so certain that the author previously calls it our anchor (6:19). Blood was sprinkled at Mount Sinai on the priests and even on the people. Under the New Covenant, people’s hearts are inwardly sprinkled with Christ’s blood to cleanse them from a guilty conscience when they come to faith. (Jeremiah Study Bible)

Hospitality in Christian Life
