The Importance of Truth in Our Spiritual Journey

1-minute read, Sunday’s Memory Verse, 4/13/25

“So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.” Hebrews 2:1 NLT

“As a matter of fact, if you examined a hundred people who had lost their faith in Christianity, I wonder how many of them would turn out to have been reasoned out of it by honest argument? Do not most people simply drift away?”

Understanding Passover: Significance for Christians and Jews

Passover has significant meaning for Christians and Jews alike. Passover begins before sundown on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is a pivotal Jewish holiday commemorating the Israelites’ liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt. Now Passover commemorates the liberation from slavery to sin for all who trust and follow Jesus.

At the first Passover, Moses told the people of Israel to slaughter a lamb (Exodus 12:2142) and spread its blood on the entrances to their homes in Egypt (Exodus 12:7). The blood protected the people from God’s wrath. Every subsequent Passover likewise required the sacrifice of a lamb.

The ancient Passover feast has always foreshadowed the ultimate atoning work of Christ’s shed blood on the cross as the full and final payment for our sins.

“For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.  Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old bread leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Corinthians 5:7-8 NIV

Jesus Christ is our Passover lamb. Just as lambs were slaughtered during the Passover to atone for sin, Jesus died for the same purpose. His blood was sacrificed for us on the cross to deliver us from sin.

“… it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed …  but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” 1 Peter1:18-21 NIV

He saved us by causing the wrath of God to “pass over” our sins.

“Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!” Romans 5:9 NIV

“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith.” Romans 3:25 NIV

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'” John 1:29 NIV

“All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb’s book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.” Revelation 13:8 NIV

Shalom to all!

Abiding in Christ: The Secret to a Fruitful Life

1-minute read Friday, 4/11/25

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” John 15:7-8) NKJV

To abide in Christ means to dwell in His Word, walk in obedience, and remain in constant reliance upon Him. The result is a life that glorifies God.

When we recognize that we can do nothing apart from Him, we also recognize that all we accomplish is by His power and for His purposes.

Loving Truth: How Paul’s Letters Guide Our Faith

1-minute read – Verses for Meditation, 4/10/25

The Apostle Paul said, “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” Galatians 4:16 NIV

Paul loved the Galatians but he would not compromise the truth to appease them. In fact, he pleaded with them to turn away from false teachers, warning them that the motives of the false teachers were evil.

Proverbs 27:6 AMP says, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern], But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].

We must love the truth so that we are not seduced by a spirit of compromise. Jesus prayed for His disciples,

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 NIV

Quote of the Week, 4/9/25

God’s part is to work out His plans. Our part is only to believe. As we journey on towards Easter, God wants us to begin just as Mary did: not with a full understanding, but with a trusting step of faith.”

Pastor Pete, A Step of Faith, Read it here: Praise2Worship

And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. Luke 1:38 KJV

Bible Illiteracy: A Call to Christians

1-minute read Tuesday, 4/8/25

“I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.” Psalm 119:16 NIV

“For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we, through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures, might have hope.”  Romans15:4 KJV

Many Christian leaders have said that Bible illiteracy is the plague of our times, and I agree.

“Of over 2 billion Christians in the world, less than 30% will ever read through the entire Bible. The fact is over 82% of Christian Americans only read their Bibles on Sundays while in church. One of the main reasons why American Christians don’t read their bibles is, only 22% of them believe the Bible is fully inspired by God Himself.” (Ponce Foundation)

My opinion: Ignorance is not bliss. We don’t have to live in the dark. God has given us a great treasure, His Word.

“The law from your mouth is more precious to me
than thousands of pieces of silver and gold.” Psalm 119:72 NIV

“If your law had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my affliction.” Psalm119:92 NIV

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105

Anti-Semitism and Biblical Warnings: A Call to Reflection

1-minute read Monday’s Verse, 4/7/25

“For this is what the Lord Almighty says: “After the Glorious One has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye—  I will surely raise my hand against them … ” Zechariah 2:8-9 NIV Read full chapter

Comment: I wouldn’t want to be an enemy of Israel. The Bible is full of warnings. And yet, anti-semitism is at an all-time high in the world today. Remember: Jesus was a Jew.

Understanding God’s Call: Trusting Him to Guide You

“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 AMP

Has God called you? Do you strongly desire to do this thing? He will give you the ability to do it!

I believe that God put it in my heart to write this blog. But today, the above verse verified what I believe, and I have clarity.

I have trusted Him to lead and guide me based on several Scriptures, including:

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105 NIV

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV

Does God speak to us? Yes! He speaks to us through His Word! Today, His Word spoke to me loud and clear, showing me what He wants me to do.

You may wonder why I am sharing this with you today. It’s because I have been pulled away from my writing to do other “good” things. I am teaching children’s Sunday School and managing our Food Pantry Ministry, which provides free groceries for the poor. Honestly, it has been overwhelming! And it has drastically cut into my time for writing and supporting my fellow bloggers. I know I must let some things go.

“He (God) gives you the desire and then He gives you the ability to carry out His good pleasure.” Pastor Steve Yohn

“Isn’t that refreshing, to think how God changes us day by day as we allow Him to carry us through His will in our lives.” Amir Tsarfati

So what part do I play in this? I must ask God to purify my heart, surrender to God’s will, love the Truth, and study my Bible.

ASK GOD TO PURIFY YOUR HEART

“Create in me a pure heart, O God…” Psalm 51:10 NIV

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23

SURRENDER TO GOD’S WILL

Jesus prayed, “… not my will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42

LOVE THE TRUTH

“… wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.” 2 Thessalonians 2:10 NIV Read full chapter

To love the truth means we will exalt God’s Word over our own opinions and the opinions of the world.

STUDY THE BIBLE

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 NIV

“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11 NIV

Trust God to guide you, but make sure you are doing your part.

Sometimes Christians hear preachers say, God told me this and God told me that. And we think, Why doesn’t God talk to me like that?

I believe that hearing God boils down to faith in His Word, not voices we imagine may be God.

I encourage you to think about God’s purpose for your life and trust the Lord to accomplish it.

“… he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 NIV

But remember, our life is a journey. Moses had many experiences before God used him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt! And think about all that Joseph went through before he became 2nd in command in Egypt. So if you’re at the beginning of your journey, know that God is already at work in your life (whether you see it or not)! In fact,

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Our walk with God is all about faith. Jesus said,

“… when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?” Luke 18:8 NIV

Exploring the Reliability of the Gospels

1-minute read, Friday, 4/4/25

Jesus said to His disciples, “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:25-26 NIV

the Advocate: Gr Paracletos, one called alongside to help.

Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would guide the apostles in remembering His teachings, promising both divine inspiration and historical accuracy. This is evidence that the Gospels are authentic and reliable.

Read more about the reliability and trustworthiness of the 4 Gospels in Bruce Cooper’s post, The Books and Letters of the New Testament Series – Part 1 of 3.
