Perseverance Through Faith: A Biblical Perspective

1-minute read for Tuesday, 6/24/25

Rediscovering Your First Love in Faith

1-minute read for Monday, 6/23/25

” I want you to trust me in your times of trouble, so I can rescue you and you can give me glory.” Psalm 50:15 TLB

Note: This is one of the first verses I ever underlined in my Bible decades ago. Do you remember reading a promise in the Bible that you had never read before? It was thrilling! Maybe this is what the book of Revelation is referring to as “your first love”: The thrill of getting to know God through His Word.

“But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” Revelation 2:4 NASB

What do you think?

Overcoming Doubt: Trust in God’s Word

Do you ever wonder if you have the ability to do what God has called you to do? That will only lead to doubt. I’m reminded of Moses who also doubted his ability to carry out God’s will for his life.

God said, “I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

And God said, “I will be with you.” Exodus 3:10-12

So you see, it’s not our ability that counts. The Bible says,

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands.” Psalm 138:8 ESV

Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 AMP

Doubt and fear come from our enemy, Satan. He is the father of lies and the deceiver.

I must admit that this has been a struggle for me since I began writing this blog over eight years ago. How do I fight these doubts? The same way Jesus fought the enemy’s temptations: with the Word of God.

“The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:3-4

I have written the following verses out and posted them by my desk.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8

“Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.” Proverbs 16:3 AMPC

Remember this:

“And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” Ephesians 4:11-12 ESV

One time when I was feeling especially discouraged and doubtful, I received an email from my pastor to the church body. It was right on time! This is what it said:

“One of the greatest deceptions to grip the church of Jesus Christ has been that ministry is for the professionals. We’ve mistakenly come to think that ministry is supposed to be done solely by those who have been licensed, ordained, employed, or otherwise set apart by a church or religious organization, and in embracing that belief, so many Christians have taken their place on the sidelines of ministry when God expects them to be in the game!”  Dr. Jeff Reynolds, Pastor First Baptist Church Bowling Green, KY

Finding Hope: A Reflection on Psalm 130

1-minute read for Friday, 6/20/25

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen wait for the morning,
more than watchmen wait for the morning.” Psalm 130:5-6 NIV (emphasis mine)

Commentary: The word hope in our present thinking most often carries the idea of wishful thinking, but in Biblical thought, hope was synonymous with certainty. (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

God’s Promise to Abram: Land and Legacy

1-minute read for Thursday, 6/19/25

“The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.” Genesis 13:14-15 NIV (emphasis mine)

Commentary: God blessed Abram with far more land (than Lot chose) – the whole of Canaan, north…south…east and west – and then God vowed to give the land to Abram’s offspring FOREVER. (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

God gave Abram and his descendants a specific piece of land that we know today as Israel.

Quote of the Week, 6/18/25

“The Bible—banned, burned, beloved. More widely read, more frequently attacked than any other book in history. Generations of intellectuals have attempted to discredit it; dictators of every age have outlawed it and executed those who read it. Yet soldiers carry it into battle believing it more powerful than their weapons. Fragments of it smuggled into solitary prison cells have transformed ruthless killers into gentle saints.” Charles Colson

Understanding the Importance of Truth

Sunday’s Memory Verse for 6/15/25

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3 John 4 NIV

My thoughts: As we meditate on these words from the Apostle John, may we grasp how important truth is. Jesus prayed for His disciples,

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 NIV

“All who walk in the truth know it, but not all who know the truth walk in it.” Jeremiah Study Bible Notes
