Are You Studying the Book of Revelation Or Avoiding It?

2-Minute Devotion for Monday, 9/7/26

Just the thought of studying the book of Revelation can be daunting. I’ve read it several times, but what does it all mean? I challenge you to tackle this book, take notes, and delve in, expecting God to teach you.

Jesus assured His disciples,

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26

Learn the characteristics of a healthy church according to Jesus. Find out the things Jesus held against them, things which would result in the removal of their lampstand if they did not repent. The lampstands represent all Christian churches. (chapters 2 and 3)

Some of the things prophesied made little sense until recent times. That’s why Revelation is even more interesting and exciting than it ever was!

“It (the beast) also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.” Revelation 13:16-17

In the past, we couldn’t imagine how this would be possible. But today we know that through modern technology, it is possible.  The mark of the beast could be an implanted microchip that allows people to access their digital currency.

Key end-time events involve Israel. But before Israel became an independent nation on May 14, 1948, the Jews had not been living in their land since the first and second centuries.

These are just a few examples of what you can (and should) learn in this timely message from Jesus.

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

“The angel said to me (John), “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God who inspires the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.” Revelation 22:6

“Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll.” Revelation 22:7

These are words in red, the very words of Jesus, our Savior and Lord.

  1. I appreciate, Cindy, your emphasis on studying the Bible. It’s exciting how the Word of God applies to every facet of our lives. Today, we have abundant and free study resources, opening up fresh vistas of insight. These resources help believers unite the lessons of the Old and New Testaments. Within the Bible, God gives us everything we need to become who He says we are. It starts not just with reading, but with a daily study of scripture. Then, Revelation and the other books don’t just make sense, but they come alive and bless our lives. Thank you for encouraging us!

  3. This is an excellent and much needed call to action Cindy. There are too many believers who avoid Revelation based on the thoughts of others, when they should check it out for themselves. This is more urgent with each passing day. God bless you today my friend and sister 🙏

  4. I’ve read and studied Revelation many times and the clear message is that we will be at war with satan until Christ returns. And Jesus wins the war for us; in fact the victory was won on the cross.
    Until that glorious day we are to be diligent in the faith, and trusting the Lord for the victory. He knows the day and we cannot know it.

  6. Cindy, I think a lot of Christians probably avoid Revelation simply because it can seem so difficult to understand. I know I have read parts of it and thought, “What on earth does all this mean?” But I really like your encouragement to approach it expecting God to teach us rather than being put off by the difficult passages.

    I also think the most important thing is that Revelation ultimately points us back to Jesus. There are some incredibly challenging and mysterious things in the book, but running through it all is the promise that Jesus is coming again and that He will have the final victory.

    Your reminder that Jesus Himself says, “Look, I am coming soon!” really brings it back to where our focus should be. Whatever we make of the details and prophecy, we should be living ready for Him, trusting Him and keeping His Word.

    Thanks for the encouragement to open Revelation rather than avoid it. I think I might take your challenge and spend a bit more time studying it! 😀

    1. Yay! I’m glad to hear that!
      I agree with all you’ve said. It does point us to Jesus! Another good reason to read it is that we won’t be easily deceived when we know all of God’s Word.
      I highly recommend Amir Tsarfati’s book, Revelation Revealed. He explains Revelation chapter by chapter using other Scripture passages including Daniel and Ezekiel. It is very solid teaching, not sensationalized.

  7. Cindy, I laughed when I read the title. During Covid I found a podcast series on Revelation that was in 30 parts – 24 hours of lessons! I listened to it three times over the course of a couple of years. Then our Sunday school class in Louisville studied it for 14 months! (Our teacher is very thorough.) Then when I came to Michigan, the ladies’ Bible study at the church here was studying Revelation. So, I guess the answer would be, “I’ve BEEN studying it.” 😉
