As we move forward through the last days, it is vitally important that we know how to recognize false teachers and false teaching. There is only one way to do that. We must know what the Bible says because it is the only indisputable source of Truth. Therefore, the only way to protect ourselves from deception is to read and study God’s Word.
“The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.” 1 Timothy 4:1-2 NIV
Did you know that the average person can read the entire New Testament in 15 to 18 hours? To read the entire N.T. is a great place to start. If you spend only 30 minutes a day, you could do it in about one month! (I am not suggesting we don’t need to read the Old Testament.)
This is important because when you read the N.T. as a whole, you will notice things that may previously have escaped your attention. You will realize that the N.T. warns the believer about false teachers in every book except for one (Philemon).
The Apostles speak out against false teachers in the strongest language. Their warnings must not be ignored.
“But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.” 2 Peter 2:1-3 NIV
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,” Ephesians 6:13-14 NIV. Read full chapter
