1-Minute Devotion for Friday, 8/14/26
“I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.” Romans 16:17-18 NIV
It is not those who point out doctrinal error that cause division. It is those who depart from sound doctrine that cause division. They deceive unsuspecting people. This is why they must be exposed – to protect believers.
Speaking the truth in love is an act of obedience, not hostility.
“I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” Jude 3 NIV

Excellent summary, Cindy: Speaking the truth in love is an act of obedience, not hostility. It pairs perfectly with 1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV.

Amen.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.” 1 Peter 15-16

We do need to contend for the faith, expose the lies the enemy spreads and then speak in truth and love to our fellow Christians. Thanks for this reminder!
