For Your Reflection, Tuesday 6/23/26
As I was driving home, the driver in front of me slammed on his brakes, which meant I had to slam on my brakes! My right arm flew over to protect the child in the passenger seat. Only there wasn’t a child in the passenger seat, and there hasn’t been for the last 30 years!
I had to laugh at myself, and I wondered if that habit was going to stay with me for the rest of my life. It made me think of all the good things that could become a habit. Spending time with God and reading the Bible each morning before you start your day is the most important habit you could ever develop.

I have put my hope in your word.” Psalm 119:147 NIV

This is a good reminder of having good habits ingrained in our life. As you rightly say, the holy habit of consuming God’s Word every morning (and evening too!) is very important. It is lifesaving even, as God holds you secure in His Righteous right hand. God bless you today my sister and friend 🙏

So true, Cindy! During my life, I found habits are often hard to put in place. They’re even harder to get rid of! Then I came across the concept of ‘habit staking.’
Habit stacking is about adding actions to an existing positive habit. Reminders set in your digital calendar make it easy to remember those action goals.
Like anything new, it takes some getting used to, but once ingrained, you feel off unless you go back and complete a missing piece of the newly formed habit.
For example, I wanted to read the entire Bible every year in chronological order. I also wanted to complete a daily devotional plus read that day’s Proverbs (e.g., Proverbs 1 for the first day of the month). Above all, I wanted to get focused on praying the will of God, contributing in prayer to others. That digital reminder can include prayer prompts for people and issues.
If anyone wants to spend more time in the Bible and prayer, I suggest they consider habit stacking.

Habit stacking is a wonderful idea. I had never heard of it before. I love the “Read the Bible in a Year Chronological Plan”. I believe it is important to read the entire Bible. God bless you today, Grant!

Thanks, Cindy, and habit stacking not only works, but it’s easy. Just glue the ‘new habit’ to the ‘old habit’ and watch what happens.
