Anticipating Christ’s Return

1-minute devotion for Tuesday, 10/28/25

“Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.  They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4 Read full chapter

“Certainly many believers in the first century – Peter included – expected that Christ would return during their lifetimes. But now the scoffers were making light of this ‘coming’ he promised, causing God’s people to doubt whether Jesus’ promise was true.” (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

Even today, scoffers still scoff. Don’t let them stop you from earnestly looking for His coming with anticipation and joy!

“Come Lord Jesus!” Revelation 22:20

In His Love, Cindy

All Scripture is from the NIV unless stated otherwise.

  1. The words of scoffers today and always are empty vessels, worthless words. We know that our Lord is coming back because He promised He would…that is all the assurance we need – all glory to Him!
God bless you richly today sister Cindy 🙏

    1. “We know that our Lord is coming back because He promised He would…” Amen! I’ve actually had people say, “My grandma used to think that a long time ago!” Thanks for commenting on this, Alan. May God bless you richly each and every day! 🙏

  2. It’s interesting how much we have in common with those from the New Testament. How we live as if Christ’ return shall be during our lifetime (and we should live this way) but our old faithful disciples lived in such a way as well. It just brings the reminder that His word stays fresh and hope-filled. I pray my waiting heart waits well.

    1. That is so true. The more I study the Bible the more I realize how timely it is right now. Isn’t that amazing?! His Word is alive and active. And it is still THE source for TRUTH! Blessings, Alicia! ✝️

  3. Hi Cindy!
The sentence “Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation” is interesting, because it omits the flood of Noah’s time, which was a preview of the final judgment. Today many (even within “Christendom”) deny that the flood actually happened and also deny the future return of Christ as well (full preterists as well as secular folks).

Praise the Lord for His promises that are always kept. By the way, thanks for the blog recommendation!

    God bless,
    Craig

    1. Hi Craig!
Ever since I escaped the Word of Faith cult (about 30 years ago), I have focused my learning almost 100% to the Bible and I try to be a true Berean. So when I read your message, I had to do a little research to find out what a preterist is. Anyway, you make an excellent point! To NOT take the Bible literally is to be on shaky ground! (in my opinion)
Of course I recommended your blog! You know I love your poetry! Blessings my friend!
