Are Your Kids Asking Demons For Guidance?

Updated from October 2023

Don’t assume your child hasn’t been exposed to it.

The devil will entice God’s people to sin any way he can. One of his favorite ways is to make the sin seem innocent. (It’s just for fun!) But divination is not innocent fun, and sin has consequences.

Did you know that if you consult a psychic for guidance, you are asking a demon for help? If you ask a Ouija Board questions, you are asking a demon for help. In fact, fortune-telling is just another word for divination. And divination is an abomination to God. It is sin.

Christians should look to God for guidance, not demons. Paul clearly associates fortune-telling with demons in the Scripture below.

“Once when we were going to the place of prayer,Ā we were met by a female slave who had a spiritĀ by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.Ā Ā She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, ā€œThese men are servants of the Most High God,Ā who are telling you the way to be saved.ā€Ā Ā She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, ā€œIn the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!ā€ At that moment the spirit left her.” Acts 16:16-18 (emphasis mine)

When I was a teenager, I participated in a seance with friends. They said there would be someone there who really knew how to do it. I thought it sounded like fun, but that night I was overcome by intense fear that I had never experienced before or since. Eventually, I realized I had done something I shouldn’t be doing.

I repented of this sin and I would never, ever do it again. I learned my lesson well.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sinsĀ and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

Unfortunately, teens may participate in occult activities, not knowing how dangerous they are. Just because someone claims it was just for fun, does not protect them from the consequences. Every Christian should know that divination is an abomination to God. But do they?

1 Chronicles 10 is the story of King Saul’s last day on Earth. He is wounded by the enemy and then kills himself to keep from being captured. The next day, the Philistines stripped him and cut off his head. Verses 13 and 14 say,

“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance,  and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”

There are many Scriptures that make it clear that all types of divination are a sin and an abomination to God. Here are a few.

Ouija Board

“When you enter the land theĀ LordĀ your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable waysĀ of the nations there.Ā Ā Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire,Ā who practices divinationĀ or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,Ā Ā or casts spells,Ā or who is a medium or spiritistĀ or who consults the dead.” Deuteronomy 18:9-11

Witchcraft

ā€œI will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.” Leviticus 20:6

“Do not turn to mediums [who pretend to consult the dead] or to spiritists [who have spirits of divination]; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31 AMP

Tarot Cards

God calls these things detestable. Yet teens are captivated by them. Pew Research Center found that two-thirds of teens report using TikTok. Majorities of teens use YouTube and TikTok every day, and some report using these sites almost constantly.Ā This is the day in which we live.

Some methods of divination include psychics, tarot cards, Ouija boards, reading tea leaves, astrology, horoscopes, zodiac signs, pendulum boards, fortune tellers, drug use, the enneagram, and others.

Horoscope

Remember, sorcery of any kind is not innocent fun. God’s Word is our guide.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.  But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6 NLT

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

The Lord says, ā€œI will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT

I am posting this as a warning during this Halloween season. To even dabble in occult practices is dangerous. Make sure your children are not ignorant about this.

In His Love, Cindy

  1. I saw a blog where the woman was having a witches party for Halloween. Said she wanted her garage to look like a witches den. All of the decorations were witch themed, even had a dress form in witches attire. All of the comments thought it was wonderful. There are a lot of adults into these things too. My comment was the only one who did not praise it and it, my comment was deleted.

        1. Thanks for replying. It just shows that ignorance of God’s Word is a big problem in the churches. I pray that God’s people will hunger and thirst for His Word. Blessings!

  2. Thanks you for this. Like you, I also was into some of this in my high school years, during a church party, they had things there. Amazing how ignorant we are to the ways of the enemy of our soul. My daughter-in-law allow our grandsons to do video games that are so demonic, it concerns me greatly. So, we pray always for their well being.

Thanks you Cindy for this post and for speaking the truth. Blessings you to.

    1. Thank you for the encouragement. There is no excuse for any Christian to be ignorant of this unless they are a new Christian. It’s important to pray for our grandchildren. I know that my grandmothers prayed for me, and I am thankful for it! Blessings, Eileen! šŸ™

  3. I agree 100% Cindy! Before I was a Christian, I was very interested in astrology, and paranormal stuff like telepathy and telekinesis. I know now it was because I was craving a spiritual connection, something bigger than mere humanity! Very soon after I was born again, I realised that these activities were not compatible with my faith, and I got rid of all my books (destroyed and binned, not donated. I wasn’t able to burn them, sadly!) I also wrapped up my gold “star sign” necklace in multiple layers of paper and tape, prayed over it and binned that too. If anyone asks me what sign I am now, I just say “Christian”! The spiritual battle is very real. It is made seductive and appealing to our young people especially, because they feel powerless in this age where we are so surveilled and controlled. If only they knew what power we have through the Holy Spirit, they would never look elsewhere! Great post. Thanks!

  4. Thank you, Cindy, for sharing this article of truth and warning! Your thoughts (and experience) parallel with mine! Even more, the truth in the Word of divination! Do we really know the evil we are asking INTO our lives and homes? It’s preying on the vulnerable of all ages and can slip in to the wisest of us by veering any way opposed to the Word! God bless you, sister!

  5. I know someone who professes to be a believer. She went through some kind of deep hurt and over time has become very into new age talk. She has a business of making natural soaps, lotions, etc. Her business is booming but I saw in one of her videos that she now sells crystals, sage kits, different stones that have healing properties, etc. Her cousin, whom I also know, posted something about tapping. I researched it and it’s also a very new age spiritist kind of activity. I feel so sad for both of them. We need to be so careful and especially to educate our children in these seemingly innocent but very dangerous activities. Thank you for writing about it, Cindy.

    1. Patty, Thank you for sharing this. I know that Satan will use deep hurts to lead someone into sin. I don’t know if this is what happened to your friend, but it’s possible. Pray that she will come to her senses. I agree that we have to educate our children. The fear of the Lord will protect them. God bless you and yours, today! šŸ™
