Quote of the Week, 7/30/25

Even though it is not Christmas, this quote from J.I. Packer spoke to my heart today. May it speak to you as well.

“The Christmas spirit does not shine out in the Christian snob. For the Christmas spirit is the spirit of those who, like their Master, live their whole lives on the principle of making themselves poor – spending and being spent – to enrich their fellowmen, giving time, trouble, care and concern to do good to others – and not just their own friends – in whatever way there seems need.”
― J.I. Packer, Knowing God

Jesus said, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,  I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36

In His Love, Cindy

All Scripture is from the NIV unless stated otherwise.

  1. We have volunteered for different services over the years to homeless folks. Those running the shelters live in home they would never invite a homeless person to as they felt it just was not good enough. These folks go without to give to other.

Recently, in the new, were some congress people who got rich off of scamming other with the whole “homeless” shelter issue. The comments broke my heart. Many said that is why they did not give to shelter because they knew the people were just scamming for money and not really helping the homeless.

Sad part is, I was never part of a group who got rich from serving other, they depended on the kindness of other to support their ministries. It is stories like this that I pray people realize, yes, there are scams, but by and large more of these ministries are above board and need our support.

I have to tell you helping others is like Christmas year around. Blessings to you Cindy.

    1. Hi Eileen, Hope you are well. It’s very sad and shocking that anyone would steal from the poor. But I know it happens. Thank you for helping the homeless. I work at a food pantry that our church provides. Sometimes my heart breaks when someone shares their story. And you’e right. Helping others is a blessing to the giver as well as the receiver. It also reminds me of how blessed I really am. God bless you, my friend! 🙏 🤗
