The Call to Make Disciples

1-minute devotion for Friday, 7/11/25

Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 (emphasis mine)

Making a disciple is more than leading someone in the sinner’s prayer. It includes teaching and supporting them in their faith. Making a disciple is a tall order and not one that someone can easily accomplish alone. The Church must work together, each one doing his part. We must ask ourselves: Am I doing my part?

In His Love, Cindy

All Scripture is from the NIV unless stated otherwise.

  1. Absolutely! Making disciples is a lifelong journey of growth, teaching, and community. It’s not just about a one-time decision but about walking alongside others, helping them grow in faith and obedience to Christ. The Church is a body—each member has a role to play, whether through teaching, encouraging, serving, or praying. Let’s examine our hearts and ask: *How can I actively participate in fulfilling the Great Commission?* Jesus promised to be with us—what a powerful motivation to step out in faith and obedience!

  2. This hit me today. I have long struggled with what my role is with regards to this part of my faith, and how to live it in making disciples. I appreciate this push to go find those answers.

    1. My advice: Help in your local church where help is needed. God will guide you (wherever you happen to start). Your part is to be willing, surrendered to His will. He will do the rest. Most importantly, study your Bible faithfully because the Holy Spirit will bring verses to your mind. The Bible is your guide.
      “Your word is a lamp for my feet,
      a light on my path.” Psalm 119:105
      God bless you and guide you, Scott!
      “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
      I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” Psalm 32:8
      Praying for you, my friend! 🙏✝️

  3. The Jewish people need to be born again. Some preach there is a separate path for the Jews, they are false teachers. Jesus said that no one comes to the Father except through Him.
