Historical Significance of Palm Sunday

1-minute read for 4/13/25

“The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.” Matthew 21:6-8 NIV Read full chapter

Commentary: The people showed that they were receiving Christ as royalty by spreading their cloaks on the road and palm branches before Him and shouting words meant only for the Messiah.

Palm leaves represented independence to the Jewish people. Waving palms expressed their hope that the Messiah was in the city, taking control, throwing off Roman bondage, and setting them free. He did set them free, but not in the way they expected. (Jeremiah Study Bible Notes)

  1. Cindy, God bless you, dear sister and friend. Thank you for sharing always. I’ve been writing, praising, crying, and sharing with family about this day and its significance. Here you are, sharing with the world. From waving of the palm branches to yelling “Crucify Him!”. His horrific death and resurrection for you, me, everyone. May God bless you on this Palm Sunday and Holy Week dear friend. Much love to you and Henry from Finn and me. 🤍🙏
