Verses for Meditation, 10/3/24

“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Ephesians 4:11-16 NIV (emphasis mine) Read full chapter

  1. Once I ask an elderly friend just when do we get mature enough to not be tossed around, I was in my 30’s and he was in his 70’s. His reply was I will let you know. In January I turn 70 and guess I am still wondering about this man and his walk. Life has a way for throwing things at you that you do not expect. We get better at handling them but sometimes we still get knocked off our feet. At this time in life it is the getting up that is challenging as the knees just do not seem to hold me up as well.

We had a saying about the horses, “being rode hard and put away wet”. Sometimes when the doctor ask my husband how he got into the condition he is in, well this saying comes out.

It is not the being rode hard, it is the care afterwards that matters. Often we neglect that, we forget to go to our Father and elder Brother for this care. It is sometimes these old bones are still stubborn and have to learn that lesson again.

God bless you Cindy and thank you always for sharing what God has given you.

    1. Eileen, Thanks for sharing that with me. I had never heard the horse saying. That’s a good one. The gentleman who said, “I’ll let you know” was right on. I think the biggest thing that stands in the way of our maturity is listening to teachers more than studying the Bible for ourselves. The better we know the Bible, the more discernment we will have. Some people think they are mature just because they go to church, but they listen to every entertaining speaker that comes along. Entertaining does not equal solid Biblical teaching. Thank you, Eileen, for being a friend. May God bless you and your husband today!
