Verse for Meditation, 9/5/24

“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” James 4:14 NIV

Today I turned 73! It crossed my mind just how fleeting my youth had been. It seems like yesterday when I was a college student, when I was a new mother, when my children were adorable little toddlers learning letters and numbers. How did it go by so fast? (And who is that old lady in my mirror?)

Then I thought about what the Bible says,

“You are merely a vapor [like a puff of smoke or a wisp of steam from a cooking pot] that is visible for a little while and then vanishes [into thin air].” James 4:14 AMP

Our present life here on this earth is like a vanishing mist. Eternity is forever! I’m beginning to understand how quickly this life passes by. But eternity with Jesus awaits all of us who believe and trust in Him. Now that gives us a lot to think about!

  1. Happy birthday1 Yes this life is not eternal; the next one is. Here we are molded, tested, refined, and sanctified. On that foundation we will one day become what we were meant to be for all eternity

  3. Happy belated birthday, Cindy. 🙂 ❤

I was just thinking about this a couple of days ago, remembering the night before my 40th birthday. I lay awake, realizing I would never be in my 30’s again. I was getting older and there was nothing I could do about it. :/

Now I’m 71 and thinking, “Howtheheck did that happen?” It’s a little unsettling for me as a believer, but I can’t imagine what it must be like to someone who doesn’t have the assurance of eternal life.
