Quote of the Week, 5/22/24

Our teachers of God’s Word are not always to be trusted. In fact, we should not follow any of them unconditionally, for God will call us to account for the use of our understanding. When even our pilot errs, it is necessary for us to follow the chart of the Word of God closely, so we might be able to save the vessel.

  1. Never a truer word said by C.H. Spurgeon, and shared by you today Cindy. We must be alert, especially in the Word of God, whoever is quoting it. Thank you for sharing this today. God bless you today sister 🙏

    1. Thank you, Alan. My heart breaks for the lack of discernment I see in the Church today because people believe anything that sounds good as long as the speaker claims to be a Christian. I love this quote by Spurgeon. Blessings, my friend!

  2. Your point highlights an important aspect of personal responsibility in faith and understanding God’s Word. It’s true that teachers, while often well-intentioned, can make mistakes.

As Acts 17:11 commends the Bereans for examining the Scriptures daily to verify the teachings they received, we too must diligently study the Bible to ensure we are following God’s truth. This not only protects us from errors but also deepens our relationship with God as we seek His guidance directly through His Word. By doing so, we can navigate our spiritual journey more faithfully, even when our trusted leaders may falter.

  3. You always seem to find the good ones, great quote. Starting out as a young Christian I lack that discernment, it cost me dearly. Sometimes it is still hard to spot the wolf in sheep clothing. The enemy of our soul is good at deception. I really enjoy Spurgeon’s writings so thank you

    1. Young Christians always lack discernment because they haven’t studied the Bible yet! That’s why false teaching is so evil. False teachers take advantage of young Christians! The better we know God’s Word, the safer we will be. Blessings, Eileen!
