Verses for Meditation, 2/8/24

“The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.” Nahum 1:3

My thoughts: Nahum prophesied about the destruction of Nineveh and Assyria, one of the most barbaric peoples that ever existed. These verses bring to mind the evil terrorist organization Hamas, which is responsible for the cruel atrocities inflicted on the Jewish people on October 7.

In His Love, Cindy

  1. We all need his grace! We all are his children. Romans 12:17-19 (NLJV)
Repay no one evil for evil. Have[a] regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

    1. The Bible does not forbid self-defense. Today, Israel is defending itself against an enemy that wants them wiped off the face of the earth. In Luke 22:36 Jesus tells His remaining disciples, “If you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.” Jesus knew that this was the time when His followers would be threatened, and He upheld their right to self-defense. Perhaps in Romans 12 Paul is trying to teach that it is no longer a time for “an eye for an eye”. Blessings, Friend!

        1. Israel makes every effort to protect civilians. They drop leaflets to warn people that an area will be attacked. (It is a war.) On the other hand, Hamas viciously attacks Jewish civilians just because they are Jews. They have committed murder, rape, and burned people alive. There actions are barbaric!
