Are Your Kids Asking Demons For Guidance?

As of October 2021, videos labeled #WitchTok have clocked up an impressive 18.7 billion views! Don’t assume your child hasn’t been exposed to it.

Did you know that if you consult a psychic for guidance, you are asking a demon for help? If you ask a Ouija Board questions, you are asking a demon for help. In fact, fortune-telling is just another word for divination. And divination is an abomination to God. It is sin.

The devil will entice God’s people to sin in any way he can. One of his favorite ways is to make the sin seem innocent. (It’s just for fun!) But divination is not innocent fun, and sin has consequences.

Christians should look to God for guidance, not demons. Paul clearly associates fortune-telling with demons in the Scripture below.

“Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.  She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”  She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.” Acts 16:16-18 NIV (emphasis mine)

When I was a teenager, I participated in a seance with friends. They said there would be someone there who really knew how to do it. I thought it sounded like fun, but that night I was overcome by intense fear that I had never experienced before or since. Eventually, I realized I had done something I shouldn’t be doing.

I repented of this sin and I would never, ever do it again. I learned my lesson well.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9 NIV

Unfortunately, teens may try these things, not knowing how dangerous they are. Every Christian should know that divination is an abomination to God. But do they?

1 Chronicles 10 is the story of King Saul’s last day on Earth. He is wounded by the enemy and then kills himself to keep from being captured. The next day, the Philistines stripped him and cut off his head. Verses 13 and 14 say,

“Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord; he did not keep the word of the Lord and even consulted a medium for guidance,  and did not inquire of the Lord. So the Lord put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.”

There are many Scriptures that make it clear that all types of divination are a sin and an abomination to God. Here are a few.

“When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.  Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft,  or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” Deuteronomy 18:9-11 NIV

Witchcraft

“I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.” Leviticus 20:6 NIV

“Do not turn to mediums [who pretend to consult the dead] or to spiritists [who have spirits of divination]; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” Leviticus 19:31 AMP

Tarot Cards

God calls these things detestable. Yet teens are captivated by them. Pew Research Center found that two-thirds of teens report using TikTok. Majorities of teens use YouTube and TikTok every day, and some report using these sites almost constantly. This is the day in which we live.

Some methods of divination include psychics, tarot cards, Ouija boards, reading tea leaves, astrology, horoscopes, zodiac signs, pendulum boards, fortune tellers, drug use, the enneagram, and others.

Horoscope

Remember, sorcery of any kind is not innocent fun. God’s Word is our guide.

“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.  But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6 NLT

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.” Proverbs 3:5-6 NLT

The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.
I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 NLT

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet
and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT

I am posting this as a warning during this Halloween season. To even dabble in occultic practices is dangerous. Make sure your children are not ignorant about this.

In His Love, Cindy

  1. The end of October is a hard time for me. In street ministry we saw the results of those who played with Halloween “games”, I was also once one of those. Far too many Christians think it is “cute” to allow their children to dress up and go trick or treat, not realizing the doors it opens. When our children were young we explained to them why we celebrated that time of the month at home in worship to Christ and for the reformation of the church in past times, praying for it again for now. Yes, we did have candy, and a few of their friends to celebrate. The parents of those children who were our children’s friends were grateful for the alternative. It is a way we have passed down that our children now they do that with their children, our grandbabies. It has kept the doors to the wrong way closed.

        1. I’m sorry to hear that you can’t attend fellowship. I was just telling my friend, Bruce, how God had laid it on my heart to be thankful for the Christian friends I have on WordPress. It is a gift to know Christian brothers and sisters all over the world. I am thankful for you, too! Would you be willing to share your first name? Blessings!

          1. Sorry, guess I thought I was logged in when I commented, my first name is Eileen I have a website on wordpress for signing English and was looking to connect with other brothers and sisters online. It is getting difficult to find Christians that are awake to Christ but not woke to society, if that makes any sense.

  2. This is the time of year that self-identified witches and cults are certainly prowling. Celebrations and festivals, etc. We must continue to have open and frank discussions; stay vigilant (watch as well as pray). Stay on God’s assignment to help bring light. Thank you for sharing.

  3. A wise and needed warning, Cindy. I know someone who has gone through some sort of life crisis – unsure of the details. She makes wonderful soaps, candles, etc., and sells them at markets around the country and on-line. Lately, I noticed that she is selling sage kits and also putting crystals in the wax of her candles. I’m so sad about that. The research I have done show these things to be New Age spiritist activities. So many are being deceived, even those that we thought were strong believers.

  4. Thank you for these timely warnings. You mentioned the Enneagram personality test. I’m very concerned about this. This is something I’ve seen our church and other Christian groups use. I’ve never thought of it as part of the occult, but just a personality test. Very worrisome indeed.

    1. GotQuestions.org has a good article on the Enneagram here: https://www.gotquestions.org/Enneagram-of-Personality.html
It says, “the Enneagram is seen as a mystical tool in solving mankind’s problem (a lack of self-knowledge) and providing the means of salvation (self-discovery).”
We know that salvation comes through Christ alone. The Enneagram is very seductive. I would stay away from it. Satan always makes evil look innocent at first. That’s how he drags us in. Thanks for commenting. Blessings, Laura!

      1. Don’t let your children have access to social media. Don’t let your children have their own phones and computers. In our family, when my brother and I use our mother’s computer, we do it where everyone can see us. On the computer we have an “account” where we can go freely but our accounts will only allow certain websites that our parents approve. We are thinking that if we get phones soon it will be Light phones which only allow calling and texting.

  5. Hey Cindy, this is an EXCELLENT post and I’m going to reblog it on my site. I noticed I have someone following me that deals in this area so I definitely want to post this for her reading. Thank you for sharing and God bless! Robin

  6. Wow, it has become so widespread. I thought it was a trend that came and died down. Very troubling. My little one is way too young to be online, but I do plan to teach him all about internet safety and not just hand him a smartphone! May God help all young ones being led astray.

  7. This is a beautiful blog I have come across. I might not be a woman, but the much I’d wish to air out will be anchored on the YouTube channel below, still on the subtle acceptance of occult in our world today;
