“Whose Image?” Quietly Roaring

The new Mission Impossible movie showcases what the world could be brought to the brink of, if AI technology got that smart. Hmm…is the idea that AI could outsmart humans one day really that far-fetched?

Can you sense what will happen if critical thinking goes even further out the proverbial window?

The university I am studying my Masters through has just made an official statement about the use of AI by students. Basically, most Australian universities are taking the stance that there is little they can do to detect or prevent students from using AI. If anything, universities state they will need to change the way they teach and assess students to ensure students are actually learning.

AI is simply advancing at a rate that ethics codes, practices, and the law itself cannot keep up with.

Despite some of the unquestionable benefits of AI, especially in the field of medicine, why does most of what I learn about AI make me feel increasingly ill at ease? Is it just me?

It seems the more I look into it, the more it makes me ponder whether humankind has got too “smart” for its own good.

So, with lots of pondering, I’ve reached a conclusion that may seem pretty far-fetched, but nevertheless, it’s where your mind may also land if you pause to think about things from a theological perspective.

God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them…..Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.”(GEN 1:27, 31)

Humans are the pinnacle of God’s good creation.

So, doesn’t it make sense that the father of lies, the master of counterfeits, the hater of everything good that God has created, the very devil himself, will continue to do all he can to destroy that image of God in humans?

Throughout history, we have seen the hand of evil. Humans kill other humans through wars and genocide. Deceived by their own sinful natures, humans abort their babies, enslave the poor and victimize the weak. Today we also witness the twisting of what it means to be male and female and the gradual decline into a gender-neutral society… ideologies hideously designed by Satan to remove humankind further and further away from recognizing that they are made in God’s image.

And now we have AI. So what? How is it any different from any other new technology?

The difference is it thinks for us. It can sound like us. It can look like us. Did you know there is Hybrid Human Artificial Intelligence (HHAI). Think carefully about where that could lead.

What or whose image is humankind being conformed to?

Let’s ponder some more and take it a step further.

What if the coming person of the anti-Christ is something or someone made in man’s image? If you have bothered to google HHAI and learned that it “fuses human abilities and AI capabilities into a unified entity”, then the thought may not seem so absurd.

Since this pondering has landed us in Revelation, what if the mark of the beast is something that humans are going to willingly line up for and, in fact, worship? With the rapid advancement in medical AI, perhaps it will be some type of medical breakthrough that promises (the counterfeit version) of eternal life?

Whoa. Time to pull up! I’m NOT into conspiracy theories but I do like to be curious and think outside the box.

I realize this post hasn’t been my usual Quietly Roaring style. But I do hope it has given you something to ponder! I will return to my usual style of writing in my next post.

In the meantime, power to the humans! 😜

  1. I truly believe that AI is demonic. I have seen enough evidence to know I want nothing to do with it. We have as little “smart” technology in our house as we can get away with. Currently we have smart phones and we have Amazon fire sticks with Alexa turned off. I would rather have no tech than AI in my house. I also watched an interesting video about the world economic forum and microchips.. 🤔🤔🤔

    1. The WEF is interesting indeed. You can learn a lot about it through Olive Tree Ministries with Jan Markel which I highly recommend. The Bible says, “the whole world is under the control of the evil one.” 1 John 5:19
So why are we surprised? Jan likes to say, “Things are not falling apart. They are falling into place.”
God has given us His Word (the Holy Bible) to show us what will happen in the last days.
      Thanks for commenting. Blessings, Katherine!

  2. Humans aren’t evolving but devolving. The more technology created, the lesser we begin to apply ourselves. At least for those who aren’t creating AI’s for companies.
God is sovereign. There is nothing that a computer can do to obstruct Gods plan. I continually ask God to give me and my family wisdom to discern Him from the counterfeits.
Let us examine the old testament of how God’s sovereignty covered Israel. He will not allow anyone to lead His people astray. Not even AI.

    1. You’re right that God is sovereign and nothing can stop God’s plan. The Bible tells us a lot about the end times. We would do well to study it. The Bible also warns us many times about being deceived. Matthew 24:24 is one. “For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”
The Belt of Truth is our protection. We must love truth. Thanks for commenting, Tiffany. Blessings!

  3. I like your post and plan to share it with friends. I feel very uneasy about AI because it goes against the foundational basic standard in my Christian worldview and that is…..that man is created in God’s image. He want us to be thinkers. AI seems to be very opposed to that.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Sue. When we ask Google or Siri a question, where do the answers come from? Some human has to provide the information. The question is, where did it come from? Is there a hidden agenda? Are people being brain-washed by AI? The Bible is the only absolute source of Truth. You can’t trust AI to tell you the truth. Blessings, Sue!

  4. I greatly appreciate your post. You’ve given me much to think on. Thank you for reminding me of Jan Markel’s quote about things falling into place. I remind myself that nothing happens outside of God’s vision and control. Nearly 40 years ago, novelist Jack Bickham wrote a novel involving AI. Research with it has been going on for many, many years.

    1. Thanks for your encouraging words. We can get discouraged by world events and the collapse of our culture, but we must “wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ” Titus 2:13
Maranatha! Come Lord Jesus! Blessings, Curtiss Ann!
