“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16
Here “the world” refers to the system of this world which aligns with Satan and opposes God. John warns readers not to love the false values, false standards, and false gods of society because whatever things are involved in the world’s system are under the authority of the evil one. We can (and should) enjoy the gifts God provides in this world: good food and drink, blue skies and fresh air, natural beauty and music, the love of family and friends,, and many other earthly blessings as well. But we should always love the Giver more than these gifts, and we should value the eternal treasures more than the temporal ones.
