How To Cope With Anxiety

2-minute devotion for Sunday, 2/1/26

We all experience anxiety at one time or another, sometimes about big things, sometimes about small things. Did you know that the Bible tells us the secret to coping effectively with this condition?

The following verses tell us exactly what to do when we feel anxious. Doing this will cause your anxiety to be replaced with peace, and not just any kind of peace, but peace that will stand guard over your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.

“The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” Philippians 4:4b-8

SUMMARY

  • Pray (Remember God is right there with you.)
  • Petition: an appeal or request, especially a solemn or humble one
  • Come to Him with a grateful heart.
  • Make your specific requests known to God
  • Remember to think about and focus on the good things in your life.

Philippians 4:8 AMP:

Finally, believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].

Even if we have walked with the Lord for many years, sometimes we need to be reminded of this wonderful promise. (I know I did!)

  1. I have struggled on and off with deep anxiety since I was little (probably due to childhood trauma). I don’t know how I could move forward without the Lord and His word in my life. Praise Him!!
    Still have a slip up here and there but flooding with truth (actively renewing my thoughts) has created new neurological pathways and overcoming happens much quicker as a result. Great verses you shared!!❤️

  2. Thank you, Cindy, for sharing these powerful verses today. They are so needed in our lives and in the world today. A friend of mine is facing a double mastectomy tomorrow and these are the verses she has asked us to pray for her each time we think of her.

    1. I will pray for your friend now. I pray that she will embrace this Scripture and make it her own. I pray that she will experience this one of a kind peace that comes only from our Lord. I pray for the doctors and nurses, that she will receive the very best care. Lord, be with her and bring her comfort. May she feel the love of Christ as she travels this road. In Jesus’ name I pray. 🙏💕😢
